To allwhom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IVALTER J. CARROLL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a display rack, and more especially to one adapted for exhibiting ribbons, laces or neckties.

The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a View in perspective of a rack embodying features of the invention; Fig. 2 is a front view thereof showing different modes of arranging the same, together with certain modifications; Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of a three section rack in folded position with one holder open; Fig. 4 is a view in longitudinal section of one of the sections of the rack; Fig. 5 is a view in detail of a hinge plate; and Fig. 6 is a view in detail of an end plate blank.

In general terms the rack consists of two or more substantially rectangular frames detachably hinged together to fold flat and provided with means for securing the ends of the ribbon or other fabric placed thereon. As herein indicated each frame consists of a cylindrical rod or wire 1 bent to form a rectangle with the ends of the wire or rod secured together, and preferably, with loops or ears 2 at each corner. The end plate that consists of a sheet metal blank 3 is secured at each end of the frame, cars t on each end of the blank being rolled around the sides of the frame-and the upper margin of the blank being bent around the end member of the frame. A hook of wire or like material having an arm 5 extending nearly across the frame with an outturned end 6 may be secured to the inner margin 7 of each end plate if desired. The lower end plate, which is preferably somewhat wider than the upper, has a clamp in the form of a spring arm 8 one end of which is bent to form a hinge 9 encircling the frame rod between the ears 4 of the plate, the other end of the clamp being bent into a hook 10 adapted to snap over the opposite side of the frame between the plate cars. A slide 11 having end lugs 12 bent around the sides of the frame is longitudinally adjustable 011 the side rods of the latter and has a clamp 18 of similar construction to the clamp 8. A pair of hinge plates 1% are secured on each section. In preferred form, each consists of a metal strip bent transversely at substantially right angles between its ends, one arm of which is secured as by a rivet 15 against an end plate 3. The extended portion is divided longitudinally into a pair of arms 16 bent in opposite directions near their extremities to embrace the side rod of the frame between the ears & of the adjacent plate. The tips of the arms 16 are outwardly fla'ed so as to be snapped readily over the ro When in use, one end of the fabric to be displayed is held against the end plate by the clamp 8 and is passed around the adjacent end of the frame and over the other end. If desired, to show only one thickness of fabric any excess length is folded back and forth across the hook arms 5, the extremity being clamped in the slide 11 which is moved along to draw the fabric taut. Otherwise the fabric is wrapped around the frame continuously, the loose end being held with the slide 11 as before.

WVhen folded flat as indicated in Fig. 3, the rack may be readily placed in a sample trunk or drawer. When extended as in Fig. i it may be placed on a counter in upright position, or the sections may be arranged alternately as shown at the right of Fig. 2 and suspended in a window.

The ribbon, ties or other articles mounted on the rack are individually accessible as the sections are readily taken apart.

Obviously, changes in details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.

What I claim as my invention 1. A display rack comprising a series of frames, each consisting of a member bent in a closed rectangle, metal plates whose margins are bent around adjacent portions of the frame, a clamping arm hinged at one end to the frame and adapted at the other to snap over the frame when folded against the plate, a slide longitudinally movable on the frame between the end plates, a clamping arm on the slide, and a hinge on each end plate adapted to snap over and engage. an adjacent frame.

A display rack comprising a series of frames each consisting of a'wire bent into a rectangle with its ends united and formed at the corners into obliquely disposed, outwardly extending loops, plates at each end of the frame having marginal extensions folded around the adjacent portions of the frame, a clamp hinged at one end to the frame to close against an end-plate and bent at the other to yieldingly engage the frame, a plate having end lugs folded over the frame sides in sliding engagement there with between the end plates, a clamp adapted to fold against the slide plate, and a hinge on each end plate adapted to snap on an adjacent frame.

A display rack comprising a series of frames each consisting of a wire bent into a rectangle with its ends united and formed at the corners into obliquely disposed, outwardly extending loops, plates at each end of the frame having marginal extensions folded around the adjacent portions of the frame, a clamp hinged at one end to the frame to close against an end plate and bent at the other to yieldingly engage the frame, a plate having end lugs folded over the frame sides in sliding engagement therewith between the end plates, a clamp adapted to fold against the slide plate, and a hook secured on the inner margin of each end plate and provided with an arm extending across the frame substantially parallel to the end thereof.

4. A display rack comprising a series of frames each consisting of a wire bent into a rectangle with its ends united and formed at the corners into obliquely disposed, outwardly extending loops, plates at each end of the frame having marginal extensions folded around the adjacent portions of the frame, a clamp hinged at one end to the frame to close against an end plate and bent at the other to yieldingly engage the frame, a plate having end lugs folded over the frame sides in sliding engagement therewith between the end plates, a clamp adapted to fold against the slide plate, and a hinge on each end plate consisting of a strip bent transversely between its ends at sub stantially right angles, one of the arms being longitudinally divided with its portions curved oppositely with flared ends adapted to snap over a frame member, the undivided arm being secured against the plate.
