Specification of Letters Patent.

Application tiled November 7, 1908.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that J ornv S. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Holland, in the county of Lancaster and State et Pennsylvania, have invented a new and lmproved Attachment for Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide an attachment :tor garment supporters, which can be used in place of buttons, and which will cause the supporters to have a `central draft on the garment instead et holding the garment up from one of its sides, whereby the garment will be so supported that it will be more comfortable to the wearer and will hang in better shape.

Other advantages of the invention are, that it will avoid wear and tear of the garment at the point of support; that it may be secured to the garment without sewing; that it may be readily moved from one place to another on the garment to fit diderent makes of Suspenders and other supporters; that it may be as conveniently used with a belt as with Suspenders; that it will bear a great weight without tearing the goods to which it is secured; that it may be constructed at very little expense; that it will ontlast several garments, and that it cannot tear loose or come oii' the garment except at the will of the wearer. i

ln this speeiiication lf will describe the preferred form of my invention, but l do not limit myself thereto, as l consider my-l self entitled to all terms and embodiments of the invention which may fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speci ication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the ligures, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the invention; Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the device attached to a garment; Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the other side et the device when attached to the garment; Fig. 4 is a side elevation ot the invention showing the manner of attachment to the garment and to the supporter; and Fig. 5 shows the device supporting a belt.

By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the attachment is composed of two members, one a hoolr u and the other a loop Y), each of the members being constructed of bent wire. The hook a, is constructed as "follows: The terminals of a wire are bent into eyes c and the wire is then looped at its center and is bent together, after which the looped wires are bent at al, between the looped portion 7e and the eyes c, to form the hoolr. rlhe looped member Zi has its terminals c pointed and these terminals are bent to form hoolrs. The member o is then bent to form an open loop, the sides of the loop not being in contact at any point, after which the loop Z) is bent at away from the pointed hooks c. rlhe pointed hooks e are adapted to be disposed in the eyes c and when thus disposed the hook a is adapted to contact with the loop Y) and to pass therethrough, because of the resiliency ot the wire of which the loop Z) is constructed.

ln using my invention, the pointed hooks e of the loop are pushed through a garment g, after which the pointed hoolrs c are passed through the eyes c of the hook a, after which the hook c and loop Z) are pressed together, and the hoolr a is pushed through the loop which locks the members. The hoolr c may then be secured to a belt 7L, or the loop t' of a suspender may be disposed under the hoolr u, by either' oit which means the garment g may be supported.

Having thus described my invention, claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

ln an attachment for garment supporters, two members, one of the members being in the 'form ot' a hook having an eye, the said hoolr being adapted to extend over the edge of the garment, the other member being in the form ot a loo-p with a pointed hook at its lower terminal, the pointed hook being adapted to be pushed through the garment and into the said eye, one of the two members being bent so that when the hook is disposed in the eye the loop is adapted to be pushed over the hooked member to clamp the two members together with the garment between them.
