Description
J. H. MANON. REFRIGERATOR. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 30, 1908.
Patented Nov. 23, '1909.
IN VEN TOR WITNESSES:
A TTOR'NE Y JOSEPH H. Manon, or sr. OSEPH, MISSOURI.
REFRIGERATOR.
. W 1 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1909.
Application filed November 3( 1908. Serial-No. 465,269.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr H. MANON, a citizen of the United States, residing at.St. Joseph, in the county ofBuchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful'lmprovements in Refrigerator, of
vhich the followingis a specification.
The object of my. invention is to provide a refrigerator having a-scale mechanism by which thecustomer is shown, exactly the Weight of the ice he receives at each delivery thus enabling the customer to secure the full I amount of ice for which he pays. 3
I accomplish my object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which, Y I
Figure 'l is a side view of the refrigerator, broken away, showing a sectional elevation of scale: placed in position; Fig. 2, is afront elevation of the refrigerator; Fig. 3 is zTdetail:transversesectionalelevatien. ofsaid j scales; 'Fig. 4 1s a detail cress sectional ele- V vation of the same;- Fig. 5 1s a"top.v1ew of the platform with drains and pipe to'carry off the waste water, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a trap for said waste water.
' Similar letters refer to similar parts in the. several views;
In thedrawings A is the frame of a refrigerator "and A. is the hinged top thereof.
B is the top of the scales constituting a platform upon which ice B is placed.
' B B are drains to carry thewater from said-platform to a waste pipe I), which pipe from trap Cinto any suitable receptacle will vary in its position vertically according t6 the weightof the ice that may be placed on platform B. v C 1s a trap Into which waste water empties from pipe 6.
C is a pipe that carries said waste water placed under the refrigerator.
bshows the waste Water in trap'C which prevents warm air from entering ,wa'ste pipe 6 and which thus prevents the loss 'of ice from warm air. v
C is an outlet provided with a screw cap C topermit'tlie cleaning of said trap.
D D are doors frigerator.
E is a metal frame inclosing and protecting the scales.
F F are supports, preferably cast iron, for guides F F and forthe top of spiral steel spring H. Said springH'carries platform B up automatically and propels the dial hand H. Said cast iron supports F F are cast integral and rigidly fastened to the base of the scale inclo sure.
I is an adjustment rod connected with a worm gear I at its inner end, its outer end I serving as a thumb screw to gage the tension of spring H, thus showing the Weight .of the load carried on platform B before a new supply of ice is added. The exact amount of the new supply of ice which is added is'thus shown. Y
J is a rod connectedat its inner end with worm gear J; which rod is propelled by straight rack K, which is supported by .guides F F.
L L are supports for platform B.
M is a cross bar serving as a support for cog wheel J; it is connected'to guide support F by means of bolts f f at either end.
0 is a water cooler of galvanized iron, or any suitable metal, which is removable similarly to a desk drawer; the object in its being removable is to allow a convenient way for filling the same with Water.
P .is a bracket to support a tumbler at the si deof the water cooler O and is rigidly attached to frame, A ofthe refrigerator.
into apartments in the re- Said water cooler is provided with a faucet R.
frigerator, of a platform, a' scale inclosure below the same, duplicate supports having rigid connection with the bottom of the platform,-supports rigidly fastened at the What I claimand desire to secure by' Let-- base of the scale inclosure, guides pivotally connected with said platform'supports and with the supports on the base of the scale incl'osure, a spiral spring engaging at its lower end with the base of the platform supports and at its upper end with the connecting part of the tops of said supports rigid on the bottom of the scale inclosnre, an adjusting worm gear, a cross bar, a straight cog connected perpendicularly to said cross her, a scale dial and hand on the outside of the refrigerator, :1 cog; wheel, a rod connected, wlth szlld. cog wheel and salcl (hal hand, a thumb screw outslde the refrlgerator and an adjustment rod connected with said worm gear and with said thumb screw, substantially as set forth and shown.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH H. MANOR.
Witnesses JOHN Conny, HARRY BAUM.
