Description
MIETEN. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNEH. WASHINGTON. D. 4
dilated ,States ADDISON NORMAN, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 93,334, dated August 3, 1869.
IMPRQVED LUNeH-Bozr.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:-
v Be it known that I, ADDISON NORMAN, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe, and State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Lunch-Gases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in 'which- Figure l is a vertical section, taken longitudinally through the case as unfolded for use.
Figure 2 through the red line y.
Figure 3 is a similar section, showing the oase folded up.
Figure 4 is atop view of an upper corner of the case, showing the locking of plates I) and d.
The nature of my invention consists in combining with a ilat liquid-flask, a box to contain lunch or other articles, which box is composed of hinged sides, for the purpose of folding and packing it in a small con1 pass, when empty.
To enable others to understand and use my invention,` I will describe its construction.
I make the ila-sk A of any suitable shape and size, the rectangular form shown being preferred, and to one or both sides of it I hinge, in a suitable manner, the plates l) and d, which, when opened, constitute the sides of the lunch-box I5, iigs. l andv 2.
When these plates are turned up, as shown, the ends ofthe case l lock into the sides l) at the upper corners, the folds of the plates, at their upper edges, heilig cutaway slightly at the .points 0 o, figs. 1 and 4, for this purpose.
g The plates b are provided with flanges, on, at their ends, which shut over the plates d, as shown in figs. 1 and 4, forming closed corners.-
Over the case B, I provide a cover, O, having a hin ged handle, c. This cover is secured to thc case by two or more lugs, x, soldered to the sides of the case, and projecting above the cover through suitable openings.
is a vertical transverse section, taken Into holes provided in the lugs zt, just outside the cover, the points of the hooks i enter, which hooks are pivoted to the cover O in a suitable manner.
This plan of fastening the cover is eiicient and simple, and occupies but little room vertically.
\Vhen it is desired to fold up the case, the cover O is removed, and the ends el turned down to the position shown in tig. 3, and the sides b upon these, thc latter being slightly offset at @1,iigs. 2 and 3, to allow them to lie flat, after which the cover O is shut over the whole, as shown, with the handle c folded down. This allows the case to be carried in the pocket, or packed in a, small space, wherever desired, making it a convenient article for travellers, mechanics, and others.
The flask A is provided with a neck and stopper, al, near one corner, as shown, the end of which projects above the top of the flask. This allows the latter to lie flat, without spilling the contents when the stopper is removed. The contents may also be heated, if necessary, the neck allowing the escape of vapor.
y My lunch-case may be constructed of any desirable material, tin being preferred, as the cheapest and easiest to iit up.
The flask A may be made in any shape, to suit the /fancy or convenience of the purchaser.
lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The hinged sides b and cl and lugs fr, in combination with the coverC and hooks t, and the ilask, for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with the above, thc liquid-ilask A, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
ADDISON NORMAN.
Witnesses I. T. TURNER, F. Il. CLEMENT.
