Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 24:, 1909.
Application filed November 29, 1907. Serial No. 404,342.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l. Fmxu M. ivlonnow, a citizen of the United States. residing at 'lurtle (rt-eh. in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and useful improvements in Laces. of which the iollmving is a specifica tiou.
My invention relates to laces for shoes, corsets. gloves. etc.. and has for its object the production of an article in which the lace is provided with an enlarged. portion in the middle. too large to pass through the eyelets of the shoe. corset or glove so that said enlarged portion will lie bet-ween the two eyeleted flaps in starting the lace and the two ends thereof will be the same length and retain their position.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a view of a flat lace made in conformity with my invention, and Fig. 2 a view of a round lace similarly made.
In the drawings 1 indicates a flat lace for shoes. corsets. gloves. etc.. having its middle formed with a large portion 2, too large to pass through the eyelets in the two flaps at the opening to be laced, so that when inserted in starting the lace in the eyelets the enlarged portion 2 prevents pulling through the eyelets and as the enlarged portion 2 is arranged in the middle of the lace the ends are the same length and remain so thus avoiding the annoyance ot'having one end of the lace pull out so thatit is longer than the other.
In Fig. 2 a round lace 3 is shown having an enlarged middle portion-l, this form being used in the same manner as the form shown in Fig. 1 and operates to center the. lace in the same manner. I
Having thus described my invention what- I claim is- As an article of manufacture, a lace having an imperforate middle portion wider than the ends and the same form throughout its length, said wide middle portion operating to center the lace when in use.
In testimony whereof I hereto aitix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
