PORTABLE SHOWER-BATH.

Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. SCHMITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Le Boy, in the county of Coffey and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Portable Shower-Bath, of which the following is a specification.

The obgect {)1 the invention is to provide an article of this character which shall be simple of construction, etficient and durable in use, and which shall be particularly adapted for use by people living in rural districts where the luxury of a bath cannot be indulged in.

Wit 1 the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists, generally stated, in a portable shower bath embodying this construction, a spraying member adapted automatically to conform to the portion of the body to which it is applied, that is to say, to the neck, under the arm pits, or over the hips, and in use of which the water will be directly applied to the surface of the skin without splashing and waste. This spraying member has connected to it a flexible tube that is designed to communicate with a suitable receptacle for containing water, which may be a bucket, or an ordinary douche bag, that is supported at a suitable elevation, as from the ceiling of a room, to insure requisite pressure to cause the water to secure the desired cleansing. The spraying member may be co11- structed of a length of ordinary garden hose, or may be especially constructed to use a length of resilient nonoxidizable wire which will cause the member to cling to the body of the user, and thus secure the object above set forth.

The invention consists in the various novel details of construction of a portable shower bath which will be hereinafter fully de scribed and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts :Figure 1 is a view in perspective of one form of apparatus, a portion of the spraying member being broken away to disclose its interior. Fig. 2 is a similar View of a slightly modified form of the invention. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail transverse sectional view through one of the spraying members.

bodies a spraying member 1, a holding member 2, a liexible tube 3 connected in any suitable manner with the member 1, and a receptacle t with which the tube connects. The receptacle may be suspended as by a hook from a suitable overhead support, such as the ceiling or beam of a room. The tube 3 has an ordinary clamp 6 connected with itby which the flow of water therethrough may be controlled or shut ofi, at will.

The member 1 is constructed from a length of rubber tubing, that is provided on its inner wall with any desired number of o ifices in which are secured eyelets 7 of any preferred type, the object of which is to insure proper discharge of the water, and also to prevent any tendency of the orifices to close when the member 1 assumes ditl' erent positions, that is to say, adjusts itself to persons of different sizes. As shown in 3, and denoted by the numeral 20, these eyelets 7 are made to project into the spraying member 1 for a short distance. 'ihe function of these inwardly projecting portions of the eyelets is to retain the clamping member 2, (hereinafter described) in its place, and to prevent it from moving into a position v. nich might impede the flow of water through the eyelets 7. One end of the spraying member is closed by a suitable plug 8, and the other end carries a nipple 9 with which the tube 8 connects in the usual manner. The holding or clamping member 2 is constructed of a length of resilient non-oxidizable wire, preferably brass, and will have sutficient springing qualities to cause it to retain the spraying member in spraying position on any portion of the body without exerting painful pressure thereon.

in the form of the invention shown in Fig. 2 the spraying member 10 has at a point intermediate its end an extension 11 that carries a nipple 12, with which connects one end of the water conducting tube 13, the other end of which connects with an ordinary rubber water bag 14. If desired a length of elastic 15 may be employed to supportthe spraying member, one end of which will be connected with the tube, and

the other end with a nail or hook 16 from which the bag 14 is suspended. By making the suspending member 15 elastic, there will be no resistance presented to the free movement of the body and arms of the user of the apparatus. The spraying member 10 is provided with orifices 17 similar to those in the form of the invention shown in Fig. l, and also contains a clamping member 18 of the same general character. The open ends of the member 10 are closed by a plug 19 which may be made removable if desired, for the purpose of cleansing the interior of the spraying member should such be necessary.

The use of the device, after the receptacle has been filled with water, and the clamping member 6 closed, to prevent escape thereof, the spraying member is arranged around the desired portion of the body, and after the required ablutions have been performed, the clamp 6 will be opened and the Water allowed to escape directly against the body of the user, and owing to the fact that the discharge is directly at right angles to the surface against which the spraying member rests, there will be no splashing or scattering of the water, but the same will flow down the body and into the tub or other receptacle in which the person may be standmg.

The apparatus herein described is simple in character but will be found thoroughly efficient in use, and will be highly appre ciated by persons who are not situated to receive the ordinary shower bath.

I claim o A device of the class described comprising a flexible tubular spraying member provided with orifices in its inner wall; eyelets mounted in the orifices, each having a straight portion arranged to project into the interior of the spraying member beyond the contour thereof; and a resilient clamping member disposed within the spraying member, the inward projection serving to prevent the clamping member from covering the orifices.
