UNITED" STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KENNETH BURNS AND JOHN W. STAFFORD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNORS TO STAR- BURN PRODUCTS, INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
I SPRAY DEVICE.
Application filed March 8, 1924. Serial No. 697,695.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, KENNETH BURNS and JOHN W. STAFFORD, both citizens of the United States, and residents of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spray Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a spray device, and particularly to devices adapted for application to parts of the body such as the breast for physical treatment.
The invention comprises a tubular bodyportion preferably of molded rubber having one end rounded and sufficiently soft to conform to the body without discomfort'and interiorly formed to adjustably carry a spray ring which can be positioned to properly direct the spray to the part desired to be treated. The rear open end of the tubular body carries away the water and the device may be held either by the hose nipple on the spray ring, or preferably by a handle attached to the spray ringfor exerting the desired pressure against the body.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is a view partly in section of the device connected for use, and
Fig. 2 is a detail section showing the pre ferred method of attaching the handle.
1 represents a cylindrical body of relatively thick section of molded rubberhaving the rounded body engaging end 2, a reinforcing metal ring3 seated within the body and an extension portion 4: of reduced section. The interior of the body is provided with as annular ribs in which a perforated spray ring 6 is sprung and frictionally retained. By this means, the ring can be adjusted at the proper or desired distance from the body to best give the desired efiect. The ring carries a nipple 7 to which a hose 8 is attached. In order to conveniently enable the desired pressure to be applied, a handle 9 consisting of a bent strip provided with spring jaws 10 is separably attached to the mildle of the ring as shown Figs. 1 an 2.
series of projections 5 here shown In operation the hose 8 is coupled to a faucet, the spray ring 6 adjusted in the desired position and the body 1 pressed against the body of the user so that the overflow will run out of the rear basin or wash stand.
The advantages of the invention are simplicity, adjustability and convenience as compared with devices of this nature heretofore proposed.
Ve claim:
1. In a spray device, molded rubber having a rounded body, engaging end, interior projections in the body spaced from the end, and an annular spray ring separably engaged in said projections and having a hose connection.
2. In a spray device, a tubular body of molded rubber having a rounded stiffened body the body spaced from the end, and anannular spray ring separably engaged in said projections and having a hose connectlon.
3. In a spray device, a tubular body of molded rubber having a rounded body en' gaging end, interior projections in the body spaced from the end, an annular spray ring separably engaged in said projectionsand having a hose connection, and means for exerting sealing pressure against the body through the spray ring.
4. In a spray device, a tubular body of molded rubber having a rounded body engaging end, interior projections in the body spaced from the end, an annular spray ring separably engaged in said projections and having a hose connection, and a handle car ried by the ring.
5. In a spray device, a tubular body of molded rubber having interior spray ring holding means, and an end shaped. to seal when pressed against the body.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 20th day of February A. D. 1924.
