Letters Patent No.A 93,706, dated August-17, 1869.
*www- IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINE FOR PRESSING- DOWN THE SEAMS INSHEET-METAL.
The Schedule referred to n these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
' Be it known that I, JAMES GLoBnR, of Omaha City, Douglas county, State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Machine for Pressing or MashiugDown the Cross-Scams in Sheet-Metal; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description ofthe saine, reference being had tothe annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a plane'view on the top;
Figure 2, a side elevation; and
Figure 3,V a diagram, showing the united sheets of metal in the act of passing through between the rollers.
This lmachine is intended more particularly to press down the cross-seams, or uniting the 'edges of tin or sheet-metal for rooin g, after they have been locked to gether, as shown in fig. 3, and is constructed and op` crates as follows: p
avis the main frame, which may be constructed of wood or metal, bearing the metal cross-rollers 7) g c\ and n, in suitable boxes.
, Z is a'table, (with guides l on each side,) upon which the sheets of tin qr sheet-metal are laid, and started between the roller c and u, being guided straight by the guides d, from thence between the two grooved rollers e, passing over the lroller g to the roller b, which is constructed with a longitudinal groove, x, cut in its face, as shown in iig. 2, with a metal strip, s, covering said groove nearly over ou the side toward the metal l sheet, as it comes over the roller g.
rIhis groove is for the purpose of catching the edgel of the sheet of metal so it will wind up on said roller into a long strip.
Motion is imparted to the rollers Vby means of' the crank m, and the cog-wheelsfi/7 which connect the rollers n and b, as shown in fig. l.
, ,',lhe roller c is furnished with movabie boxes, rg and set-screws, o, by means of which a greater or lesser v pressure is given to the metal as it passes through, as
may be desired.
Figure 3 is a diagram, showing the united sheets of metal in the act of passing between the rollers c and fn, to mash down the seam, as shown.
