This invention relates to a new' device to be applied to counters, in storesI andl salesrooms, and has for its object to serve at once as a measure, like the ordinary buttons put into counters, and as a knife for cutting the edge of the cloth or fabric measured, preparatory to tearing the same, and for cutting twine, dre.

The invention consists in the application of a blade, A, whichis sunk into a recess formed at the back and lost by careless persons, and still permits its removal when desired. The recess in the counter may be lined by a metallic box, B, as shown.

The fabric or other material may also be cut by forcing it under the button into the fork of the knife,

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improved article of manufacture, a combined yard-mark and cutter, made and operating substantially as herein shown and described.
