Description

"mini-tml States para can- Let-tm Parma No. 92,531, data zqazy 13, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT DOOR-CLAMP.
The Scheule referred to in these Letters Patentand making part of 'the lame.'
To all whom it may concrn.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. HooPER, of'Da mond Springs, in the county of .El Dorado, and State of California, have invented a new and improved Power Door-Clamp; and I do'hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,
which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot' this specification.
- This invention relates to a new and improved device for clamping doors and similar ,articles by means of horse, water, or other power than hand Yor human power; andV It consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby the device may be managed and operated with the greatest facility, and the work done in a perfect manner.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings--A Figure 1 is an end view of my invention in elevation.
yFigure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same, taken in. the-line a: as, tig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A represents the base of the'device, on which there are firmly secured bed-pieces'B, which serve'as guides for two clamps, C C
' These clanipsare .composed each of a horizontal bar, a, having two` pendants, b b, attached, one near each end, said pendants being vfitted between the bedpieces B, andsupportedf by lrollers F, which work en the top ofthe hed-pieces.
The horizontal .bars a a' of the clamps have irons or bracket'sc,'attached t`o their outer sides, and between these brackets of the two bars' a a the door `'is clamped. The vclamps OVG are connected by right and left screwfrods'l) D, which pass through' the pendants b b,
as shown clearly in g. I. l
. Onfthe centre of each screw-rod D, there Ais keyed a worm-wheel, E, and into these worm-wheels screws c, on a shaft, F, gear, said shaft having its bearings,
d, firmly secured to the base A, and the screws c gearing into the'under sides of the wheels E.
On the centre of shaft F'there is a drum, G, over 4which a straight and a cross-belt passes, in order that the shaft F may b'e turned in either direction, either belt being rendered operative and inoperative at the will of the attendant.
From the above description, it will'be seen that placing the door on the bars-a a, atwise, andhaving the shaft F turn inthe direction which will cause the right and left' screw-rods'D D to bring the clamps C U toward'each other, the door will be firmly clamped, and all joints therein brought closely in contact, the door being relieved of pressure at any time by giving the' reverse motionJ to shaft F.
The device is extremely simple and ecient, and will prove -to be a great acquisition in clamping doors, greatly expediting the work, and doing the same in a more thorough and perfect manner than usual.
I am aware of the patent granted to Mr. McElroy, September 3, 1867, for an improved cotton-press, in which right and lett-.hand screws, operated by wormgearing, are employed to move the platens; but this I do'not claim, asjit forms no part of .myinventiom What I do claim, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the clamps O @carrying the -wheels F, and connected with thel Asupporting bedpieces B B, by means of the tongues and grooves, the
right and left. screw-rod D, the worin-wheels E, and the screws c c, formed on the central shafts F, all operating in thema-nner described, for the purpose specified.
