ROBERT WESENER AND WILLIAM WESENER, OF CLEVELAND, WISCONSIN."
Specification of Letters Patent.
AppIcaton filed June 12, 1908.
Patented April 13, 1909.
Serial No. 433,242.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Ronnn'r vVnsnNnn and ViLnnmi lVnsnnnn, citizens of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county .of Manitowoc and State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to apparatus which are adapted to supply poultry and small live stock with drinking water and refers to what are known as poultry fountains.
An object of this invention is to provide a cover of special structure which when applied hermetically seals the can.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means by which the fountain can be carried from place to place and hung against a post, a fence or the like.
The invention has for a further object a i poultry fountain which is simple in construction and in the number of its parts so that it can be readily handled.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims and that any suitable materials may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device, Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, Fig. 3 is a top plan view, Fig. 4L is a top plan view of the cover detached, Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the cover and its parts disengaged from one another.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates a receptacle of preferably cylindrical form and constructed from sheet metal or the like which is provided with a faucet 11 which is disposed at its lower end upon which is adapted to be hung a drinking receptacle 12. At the upper end of the receptacle 10 are positioned cleats 13 which extend upwardly and outwardly and support a bail 111 which is provided with a suitable hand grasp 15. The receptacle 10 is provided with a central aperture 17 around which is struck up a flange 1S. Upon the upper face of the can 10 an annulus 19 is secured by means of the flange 1S. The annulus 19 is provided with diametrically disposed arms 2() which pivotally support links 21. rl`he annulus 19 upon its upper surface is provided with a boss and a washer 23. il cover 241: is adapted to be placed upon the annulus 19 over the opening 17 of the top. rlhe cover 211 is provided with an upwardly extending arm 25 which carries a eotter pin 2G at its upper extremity. Disposed upon the upper fare of the cover 2-'1- is a plate 27 which is centrally apcrtured and which is adapted to be engaged over the arm 25. The plate 27 is provided with a laterally extending arm 2S by means of which the plate 27 is adapted to be rotated about the arm 25.
Upon the upper face of the plate 27 two arcuate cams 29 and 30 are positioned which are adapted to engage the inner ends of arms 31 positioned diametrically opposite upon the edges of a disk 32 which is centrally apertured and is adapted to be engaged over the arm 25 and secured thereon by the Cotter pin 26. The arms 31 are of such a thickness and width that they engage the upper surface of the plate 27 while the same is rotated, through a small arc without engagement with the cams 29 and 30. The lower end of the faucet 1.1 extends down into the receptacle 12 below the level of the water. By this arrangement the amount of water in the receptacle 12 will be kept ata constant level as it is drawn by the fowls or small live stock.
In removing and securing the cover 24; the following operations are necessary: Vhen it is desired to close the receptacle 10 the cover 21 is placed upon the annulus 19 over the aperture 17 in the top of the receptacle, the plate 27 is then positioned over the arm 25 and the disk 32 is mounted over the plate 27 and is secured in position by means of the cotter pin 26. The links 21 are then drawn upwardly over the arms 31 and the arm 28 is operated to turn the plate 27 and the binding of the links 21 upon the arms 31 causes the tightening of the coverA 24. The washer 23 is positioned between the annulus 19 and the cover 24. By the use of this device it is readily seen that air cannot be admitted to the can 10. In order to remove the cover all that is necessary is to reverse the motion of the arm 2S and to disengage the cams 29 and 30 from the inner ends of the arms 31. This action releases the links 21 when they draw down on the top and admit of the cover 24k being removed from the can 10.
nWhat is claimed is; l. A- device of the character described comprising a body portion having an aperture in the top thereof, an annulus mounted I arm on said plate, cams carried upon the about said aperture on said body portion, arms radially extended from said annulus, links mounted through saidarnis, a cover for said body portion, a disk supported by said cover, arms carried by said disk, said arms adapted to be engaged by said links, and a cani carried by said cover, said cam adapted to raise said disk and to bind said links.
2. ln a device of the character described the Combination With a body portion of a closure therefor, said Closure comprising an y annulus Carried by said body, diametrioally l opposed arms extending therefrom, links carried by said arms, a cover adapted to be positioned over said aperture upon said annulus a Washer ada )ted to be interposed bel l i tween said cover and said annulus, an up* Wardly extending` arm from the upper face of said cover, a rotatably mounted plate disposed about said arm, a laterally positioned upper face of said plate, a disk mounted upon the upper end of said coverv arm, arms projeeting laterally from said disk, said arms :adapted to be engaged by said cams lfor the purpose of raising' said disk, said links adapted t0 engage over said disk arms and to be secured thereto by the raising of said disk.
In testimony whereof We aftiX our signatures, in presence of two Witnesses.
