WILLIAM J. HILLE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO NATIONAL ARMS AND STAMPING COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA., PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OI" PENN` SYLVANIA.
ROLLER-SKATE.
Application filed November 28, 1908.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. HILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the cit of Philadelphia, in the county of Philade phia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Roller-Skates, of which the fo lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in constructive arrangement of a clam ing device for detachably fastening by the s oe-sole the roller skate to the foot-plate thereof.
The principal object of my present invention is to provide a clamping device connected with foot-plate of the skate for securin the shoe-sole thereto, which is more relia le as well as positive in action, and also Which is differently arranged for use, from constructive arrangements of such devices, as disclosed familiarly in the prior art by U. S. Letters Patent No. 329,239, dated October 27th, 1885, No. 622,838, dated April 11th, 1899, and No. 655,673, dated August 7th, 1900, in which thereover, in the present instance are provided slotted guides for movable clamping-bars integrally formed with and de ending from the outer front portions on botfiJ sides of the skate foot-plate and the clamping-bars extending therethrough controlled by a reversely threaded bolt extending through openings rovided in each of the clamping-bars for tightening and loosening the same with respect to the shoe-sole as Well as in respect to each other.
My invention consists of a shoe-sole clamping device for a roller-skate constructed and arranged for use in substantially the manner hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature and characteristic main features of my present invention with respect to the roller-skate will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accom anying drawin s forming part hereof, in w ichigure 1, is a side elevational view of a roller-skate with a clamping device of the particular features of my present invention shown in a plication thereto. Fig. 2, is a front view o the skate, showing the clamping Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 18, 1909.
Serial No. 464,961.
i device with the threaded bolt in a position for fastening the shoe-sole securely thereto from the foot-plate. Fig. 3, is a perspective view of one of the slotted guides formed integral with the foot-plate and depending therefrom; and Fig. 4, 1s a similar view of the depending recessed bearing support of the foot-plate for the Unthreaded and recessed portion of the locking-bolt for the shoe or foot clamping-bars of the skate.
Referring to the drawings A, is the rollerskate of any ordinary well known type having a foot-plate a, with the front or toe portion where the boot or shoe rests in normal position thereupon, with two integral depending oblong slotted guides b b1.
c, c1, are two narrow clamping-bars, each having an upturned lip c2, at the outer end to engage the shoe-sole and at the opposite inner end provided with a downturned threaded perforated lip c3.
al, is a bolt reversely threaded and centrally recessed at d2, and unthreaded. The bolt d, is provided with a square end d1, for detachab y securin turning the olt and thereby clamping the respective lips c2, firmly to the shoe-sole and toward each other on the threaded portions of the bolt.
The foot being placed upon the plate c, of the skate A, by simply turning the bolt d, in one direction the front portion is clamped to the boot or shoe by means of the lips c2, c2, and can then be loosened by a reverse turningrr thereof, to release the boot from the late a, of the skate, when the ordinary hee and ankle holding straps are unbuckled.
e, is a depending bearing-support having a recessed end el, for spannin the Unthreaded recessed portion d2, of the olt d, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 4.
Certain features as shown and described in the present application have been made the subject-matter of a separate agplication for a patent filed by me under date ecember 2nd, 1908, under the Serial No. 405,706.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination, in a skate, of a foot plate a key thereto, not shown, for
having nont integral side depending slotted In witness whereof, l have hereunto sefJ guides, clamping-bars adapted to be slid in my signature in the presence of two subscribthe slots of seid guides by means connected ing witnesses.
with said bars and seid means arranged so as WILLIAM J. HILLE. 5 to be adapted to look said bars in any given Witnesses:
position thereof, substantially as and for the J. WALTER DOUGLASS,
purposes described. THOMAS M. SMITH.
