THE NORRIS PETERS cm. WASHINGTON. D. c.
PHILIP DUPHINEY, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
CIGAR-HOLDER Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 18, 1909.
Application filed January 27, 1906. Serial No. 298,263.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP DUPHINEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'aterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a new and useful construction of a cigar holder or receptacle, the object of the invention, being to provide a receiver or holder into which a lighted cigar can be placed and carried in the pocket, when the smoker is about to enter a car or room where smoking is not permitted.
Another object is to construct the holder that the heat of the cigar will not be communicated to the clothing of the person carrying the same.
\Vith these objects in view, my invention consists of a metal receptacle, made in two longitudinal sections hinged together and fastened by a clasp, said receptacle being surrounded by a metal jacket spaced away from the receptacle for the greater portion of its length.
The invention consists also in certain de tails hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l, is a perspective view of a holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectional elevation, and Fig. 3, is a section on the line XX of Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention, I make the receptacle A, in two longitudinal sections A so shaped that when placed together they provide a receptacle large enough to receive a cigar. The sections A are of impertorate metal and are hinged at B. A metal jacket C, surrounds the receptacle A, for the greater portion of its length said jacket being spaced or separated from the holder to prevent the conduction of heat. The jacket is soldered to the sections at C and C and a hinge is provided at D, so that the jacketed sectional hinged receptacle can be readily opened and closed, and a clasp E, carried by the jacket serves to hold the sections together when fastened. The lighted cigar is placed in the receptacle and said re ceptacle is then securely closed and the escape of smoke will be prevented and the receptacle can be placed in the pocket if so desired as the jacket prevents the heated holder coming in contact with the clothing.
Having thus fully described my inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to socure by Letters Patent is:
As a new article of manufacture, a cigar holder comprising two sections substantially semi-circular in shape and hinged together, each section having a spaced semi-circular jacket secured over the same for a portion of its length forming a space between the section and jacket, said spaces forming a continuous air space when said sections are swung into engagement with each other, whereby the acket will be prevented from becoming heated when a lighted cigar is placed therein and a clasp for locking said sections together.
PHILIP DUPHINE Y.
