To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ANDREW C. ARTHUR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gas-Ranges, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ranges, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide means whereby the range may be instantly converted into a heating stove without in any way affecting the functions of the cooking range.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined cooking, baking and heating gas range or stove in which the oven formed in hinged sections and foldable up against the range body when not desired for use.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in whicln Figure 1 is a side elevation of a combined gas range and stove made in accordance with my invention, and showing the oven extended and in position for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the oven folded against the range body and a cover inclosing the top of the range and stove. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section taken through Fig. 1. Fig. L is a horizontal section on the line s-+t of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular metal casing forming the range body and provided upon its upper side with the ordinary cooking holes and spiders 2. A partition 3 is secured near the upper side of the casing, and extending through said partition is a pipe 4 having secured at its upper end a suitable burner The pipe 4 extends downward and has connected at its lower end a branch pipe 6 which extends out through the casing and is connected by a tee to a horizontal pipe 8 provided with an elbow 9 connected to a supply pipe 10. The pipe 6 is provided with a suitable valve 11. Connected to the horizontal pipe 8 is an auxiliary pipe 12 to which is connected a vertical pipe 13. At the upper end of the pipe 13 a branch pipe lat is connected, said pipe 14 also being provided with a suitable burner similar to 5, said burner being disposed underneath an opening or stove hole in the top of the casing. In front of the casing 1 an opening 15 is formed, and secured inside the casing around the marginal edge of said opening is a curved heat deflector 16 provided with an asbestos lining 17. Connected to the pipe 8 is a vertical extension 18 provided with a suitable valve 19, and connected to the branch 18 is a burner tube 2O extending across the heat deflector 16 and provided with suitable jet orifices 21 in the upper side thereof, said burner tube being supported upon suitable brackets 22 resting upon the bottom of the heat deflector. Connected to the range body by suitable hinges is the sectional oven 24: comprising the top members 25 hinged at 26, the bottom members 27 hinged at 28 and the door members 29 hinged at 30 to the outer sections of the oven. The oven is mounted on casters 31, and hinged to the sections 27 are the burner tubes 32 and 33, the tube 33 being provided with a flanged seat 31 for the tapered end 35 of the tube 32. The tubes 32 and 33 are provided with jet openings on their upper sides. The sections 33 are connected to a pipe 36 pivoted in the corner braces 37, said pipe 36 being provided with a valve 38 and being connected to the supply pipe 10. A shelf 39 is supported on guide brackets i0 inside the oven. To hold the sections 25 and 27 extended catches ll are pivoted at a2, and adapted to engage a button '-'l-.3 to hold the sections extended. A button a is pivoted at the side of the casing 1 for holding each of the doors 29 closed.

he operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows :-lVhen it is desired to use the oven, the parts are extended as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. In this position the device can be utilized as a cooking and baking range and as a heating stove. WVhen it is desired to use the device only as a heating stove the oven is folded, as shown in Fig. 2, and a suitable cover to is placed on top of the range to cover the stove hole and to hold the oven in folded position. The range can be used as a cooking and baking range without the heater or can be used as a baker with the heater or as a cooking range with the heater or without the same.

My invention is of simple construction,

can be utilized to heat an apartment, and at the same time can be used as a cooking stove or range, thus saving room and saving the expense of both a cooking and heating device.

I claim 1. A combined gas range and heater comprising a range body provided with cooking openings at the top thereof, burners for said openings, a curved heat deflector secured in an opening in the front of the range, a burner tube extending across said deflector, and an oven hinged to said range body, said oven being formed in sections hinged to gether and adapted to be folded against the range body when not in use.
