Letters Patent No. 91,664, dated June 22, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE BROILERS AND TOASTERS.
The Schedule referred. to in these Letters Patent and making part of-the same.
Know all men by these presents.-
" wire frame; and
Figure 3 represents a transverse section of the wire of which the main or skeleton frame is made.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to makeand use the same, I will describe it more in detail.
The nature of my invention consists- First, in constructing the main or skeleton frames of wire broilers and toasters of peculiarly-shaped wire, as hereafter explained.
Second, in the combination, with the main frame, of grooves or notches, for receiving the ends of the filling-bars, as hereafter explained.
In the drawings, the parts marked A A represent the top and bottom main frames, to which are attached the filling-bars B B.
The wire of which the main frames A A are made is drawn or rolled, previous to'being bent into form, whereby it is compressed in such amanner as to produce a V'-shaped ridge, (1, at one side, as shown in fig. 3 of the drawings, and through which V shaped ridge grooves I) are cut or formed, as indicated in fig. 2 of the drawings.
The wires are then bent into squares, as shown, and the ends joined at one of the corners, by bending one end around the other, as shown atO.
The notches or grooves 12 are formed at two sides of the square or main frame, transversely across the ridge a, in which the ends of the bars B are placed, and where they are secured by bending them around the wires of the frames A A, as shown in the drawings. g
Two of the bars D, on each of the frames, are pro jcctcd beyond the flame-forming loops E, which serve for a handle, and upon one of the loops is arranged the slide F, by means of which the two parts are held together when in use.
, The parts are hinged together at the back by links G, in the usual manner.
By making the frames A Aof V-shaped wire, they are much firmer than they would be if formed of round wire.
By means of the grooves or notches b, the bars are always retained securely in place.
In using wire which has the ridge or projection a, thereis much less of the metal cut away to form the grooves 1) than there would be if the wire were round,
' consequently the frames are much stronger, and more durable, and .are not liable to get out of order by the bars becoming loose, while at the same time the process of manufacture is greatly facilitated and cheapened.
Having described my improvcdtwire broiler and toaster,
, What Iclaim therein as new and of my invention,
and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The main or skeleton frame, made of V-shaped wire, as and for the purposes set fortlu 2. The combination, with the main frame, made of grooved V-shaped wire, as shown, of the filling-bars B, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
' 0. L. PRO'UTY.
