HENRY T. COOPER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WILLIAM PITMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 91,422, (lated June 15, 1869.
fI'MPRovED CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
The Schedule refened to in these Letters Patent. and making part of the same.
To all whom it ,may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY l. COOPER, of' the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Gurtain-Fixture; and I do-hereby deelare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure 1 represents a front view of this invention. Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Similar letters indicate correspondingparts.
This invention consists in t-he arrangement of an elastic loop or spring, which is attached at one end to a hook formed on the inner surface of the roller-bracket of a curtain-fixture, while its other end is secured to apin or screw,'which also serves to guide and retain r the bracket in position, in ,such a manner that the strain of the elastic loop or spring keeps the cord, by means of which the curtain is operated, taut, and at a uniform tension; and, at the same time, the rollerbracket, being retained simply by one pin or screw, is free to accommodate itself to the` position of the pulley at the end of the curtain-roller, and, by these means, a roller-bracket is produced, which is very cheap in its construction, which can be fastened in roller a.
From the inner surface of the bracket A projects a hook, l, which, by preference, is produced by punching in a portion of the bracket, as shown in the drawing, but which might be made separate from the bracket, and attached to the same in any desirable manner.
From this hook extends an elastic loop or spring,
c, to a pin, or screw, tl, which passes freely through a slot, c, in the face side of the bracket, and is fastened in th'e window-frame. A
A If. the spring c is released from the hook b, the bracket A can slide up and down as far as the slot e will permit, and if the spring is attached to the hook, it has a tendency to pull the bracket downward, or toward the pin d.
From the pulley a extends an endless cord, f, over a pulley, g, secured to the end of the curtain-roller, and the bracket A is adjusted in such a position that the spring c will subject the cord f to a certain tension, suficient to retain the curtain in any desired position.
By these means, a curtain-fixture is obtained, which is very simple and cheap, and which, being fastened to the window-frame by one pin only, passing freely through the slot c, is free to accommodate itself to the position of the pulley on the end of the curtainroller, while, at the same time, the cord f is always keptat a proper tension.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is
The bracket A, carrying roller a, slotted at e, and having hook b, in connection with pin d and spring c, said pin guiding thcbracket, and supporting one end of the spring, when the parts are constructed to operate together, substantially as described.
H. T. COOPER.
