Description

J. W. DYEIL. SHAVING MUG. APPLICATION IIVLBD JULY 5; 1907.
WITNESSES INVENTOR Patented Oct. 13, 1908.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. DYER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
I SHAVING-MUG.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN W. DYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have lnvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shaving-Mugs, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to shaving cups; it has for its object an improved shaving cup or shaving mug intended to hold permanently or during a period of use the soap used by the barber for the production of lather.
In the drawings :Figure 1, is aperspective showing a cup with one side partially broken away. Fig. 2, is a vertical cross section of the cup with the soap indicated in position.
In the ordinary shaving mug or soap mug,
the soap is placed at the bottom of the cavity of the cup where it is exposed to the water used to convert some part of thesoap into lather, which water does not at all times readily drain away and the soap itself becomes water soaked, soft and iswashed away and used up and wasted. Furthermore, it is desirable after each use ofthe soap in the mug to wash off the mug and the suds and lather that has been used in order that a fresh exposure of soap and a cleanbrush may be used for the next succeeding operation, and the cup which forms the subject of the present invention, is adapted to be used for these results with a greater economy of soap than the ordinary mug.
1 indicates the mug which isprovided with a bottom having a raised tabular part 2 and a concaved depression3, which partially surrounds the tabular part 2. The side wall 7 4 of the mug bends into the surface of the tabular part 2 with a curvature 5, which leaves no sharp angle for the collection of partially used soap or undesirable matter, and the tabular part 2 extends to the grooved or depressed part 3 which rises on the other side of the curve to the wall 4 with a curvature 5, leaving the entire groove Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. July 5, 1907. Serial No. 382,143.
Patented Oct. 13, 1908 or depressed part 3 with a curved surface easily accessible to the end of the brush or to a cloth or article used to clean the cup.
The tabular part 2, is provided with a peg or rising projection 6, on which the cake of soap engages, and which is adapted to prevent thecake of soap from moving from its place on the table.
A cake of soap 8 placed on the table and pressed over the projection 6, after it has been used a single time, becomes adherent to the table and will remain in place until entirely used up, although it may be readily removed from its place at any time it may be desired to so remove it.
If the cake of soap is placed upon the flat portion of the bottom, so that it comes against the wall ofthe cup where it joins said flat portion, and is engaged by the lug 6, it will be held'from movement by these two points of. contact until it becomes adherent to the flat portion of the mug.
The groove 3 should be so arranged with reference to the handle 7, that when the cup is held in the left hand, as it usually is, and is inclined or tipped partially on its side, the groove orcavity 3 will be on the lower half of the inclined base and below the table 2, inwhichI-situation all the liquid in the cup drains into the cavity 3, whence it may be readily removed.
a What I claim is 1. A shaving cup having a side wall and a bottom, the said bottom being provided with a raised tabular part which extends from one side across the center, and with a cavity which extends partly around the tabular part, the tabular part projecting between the ends of the cavity, substantially as described.
2. In a shaving cup, the combination of a side wall, a handle and a bottom provided withv a tabular part and with a curved groove, the tabular part projecting from the side wall between the terminals of the groove, substantially as described.
. In testimony whereof, I, sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
