ROBERT BRIGGS, OF PHILADELPHIA', PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED MODE 0F FORMING THE CONNECTIONS 0F GAS-PURIFIERS.
Specification forming part ot' Letters Patent No. 90,917, dated J une S, 1869.
To whom it may concer-n:
Be it known that I, ROBERT BRIGGS, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Making the Connections to Gas-Purifiers and I do hereby declare the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in 'which- Figure 1 is afront View; Fig. 2, a top view; Fig. 3, a section on the line y z, and Fig. 4 a section on the line fv x.
The letters of reference in all the igures relate to corresponding parts.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and mode of operation.
The main casting A, which I call an inlet and outlet piece,7 has at the front side two openings, ed, to which can be joined inlet and outlet (How and discharge) pipes to a center seat or valve, or to a system of valves for controlling and operating a set of purifiers, and
has at the back side, opposite c and d, two openings, c e, or hand-holes, so that the body of A and the pipes leading from c and d can be readily cleansed. XVithin the casting A, I forni a diaphragm, ff, with an annular seat, g g, into which seat I aix the stand-pipe B B.
Thev cast-ing A being attached to the bottoni ot" a purifier by means of the tlangej, or otherwise, separate and distinct passages will be then formed for the iniowing gas from the opening c, through the seat g and pipe B, into the purifier, and for escaping gas through the annular space i t' and the mouth d to the center seat or valve.
What I claim as my invent-ion, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The forming of inlet and outlet connections to gas-puritiers with central and annular openings, or in one casting Withpassages, substantially as and for the purpose described.
