THE mamas PETERS cm. WASHINGTON, n. c.
OORA LAMPING, OF ST. JOSEPH, MICHIGAN.
GARMENT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1908.
Application filed March 24, 1908. Serial No. 422,896.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CoEA LAMPING, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Berrien' and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to garment holders, and particularly to skirt and trouser packing boards to be used in trunks, packing cases and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character upon which the skirt may be fastened in such a manner that it will not become rumpled or creased.
A further object of the invention is to construct a device of this character which will be convenient to carry, of light weight and relatively cheap to manufacture.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device, and Fig. 2 a transverse section on line oc-m of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents a body of any suitable material, which is preferably oblong in shape and is provided at each end with an aperture 2 and 3, the former being somewhat smaller than the latter, which extends approximately entirely across the body 1. At a point approximately in the center of the body I provide a pair of apertures 4 arranged adjacent the outside edges of the body and run through them a strap or other fastening device 5, having the usual buckle 6.
In practice the upper end of the skirt or the part adjacent the band is inserted in the aperture 2 and folded over upon the back of the body, the bottom of the skirt going through .the aperture 3 and being folded in a similar manner. The middle part of the skirt is held down to the body.
When trousers are packed the lower or cuff end thereof is passed through the aperture 2 and the Waistband portion being passed through the aperture 3, and the middle part being held down by the strap 5.
It will be seen that I have provided a device wherein a number of skirts, or pairs of trousers may be mounted upon a single body, or upon separate bodies and placed within a trunk so as to prevent rumpling.
It will be of course understood that while I preferably use three-ply veneer boards, they may be made of heavy cardboard, or of metal or any other suitable material, the ob- 'ect of the invention being simply to provide a light thin structure which will not consume any appreciable amountof room in a trunk or packing case.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Variouschanges in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, a body, garment receiving apertures at each end thereof, and means to hold the garment upon the body.
2. In a device of the class described, a body having an elongated transverse garment receiving aperture at each end of said body, short slots adjacent the sides thereof, and a strap passing through the slots to secure the garment upon the body.
3. A device of the class described comprising an oblong body attenuated in thickness and having an elongated transverse slot at either end of said body, one of said slots being larger than the other, said body also my hand in presence of two subscribing Withaving strap receiving slots adjacent its nesses. edges and at a point ap roximate the longi-r tudinal center of the b0 y, and a strap pass- CORA LAMPING' 5 ing'through said last named slots to secure Witnesses:

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set JOSEPH R. COLLIER, Jr.
