my @faim/ff UNITED 'sTATEs PATENT OEETOE.
THOMAS C. ROGERSON AND PHILIP RENTCHLER, OF JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS.
SHEET FOR BOILER-FURNACES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THOMAS C. ROGER soN and PHILIP RENTOHLEE, citizens of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Sheet for Sides, Door, and Flues of Steam-Boiler Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to sheets adapted to be used upon furnace sides, doors and flues and it consists in the novel arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a reinforcing sheet of the character indicated, which is dented or depressed in such a manner as to protect the stay-bolts from the 'liame and also to add rigidity to the sheet and to keep the same from crackling.
In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the sheet, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the sheet attached to a support.
The sheet 1 is attached to the shell or sup port 2 by means of the stay-bolts 3. The said bolts passing through the sheet I and having ends attened against the inner surface thereof. The inner ends of the bolts 3 are preferably located at regular intervals apart and the major portion of the sheet 1 is substantially parallel with the support 2.
The sheet 1 is provided with the concaved dents or depressions 4 and the convexed dents or depressions 5. The dents 4 and 5 are alternately arranged in rows vertically and transversely of the'sheet` I and occur Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 21, 1907.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Serial No. 393,932.
about those portions of the sheet 1 to which the inner ends ofthe stay-bolts 3 are attached. By this arrangement the said dents 4 and 5 add rigidity to the sheet and protect the inner ends of the stay-bolts from the flame as the heat thereof cannot sweep along the sheet l as it is deflected away from the same by the convexed dents 5. The dents 4 and 5-are preferably of circular configuration, although they may be of other shape so long as the general arrangement is preserved.
Having described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
A sheet forming a wall between the 'liree box and water space of a steam boiler, said sheet having concaved dents projecting from its plane into the area of the water space and convexed dents projecting from its plane into the area of the 'lire-box, said dents being alternately arranged in rows and stay bolts connected at their outer ends with the outer wall of the water space and at their inner ends with said sheet at points lying in the plane of the body portion of the sheet so that the ends of the said stay bolts lie at points between the lanes Occupied by the middle portions of tfie oppositely dis posed dents.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto affixed our signatures in the'presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS C. ROGERSON. PHILIP RENTCI-ILER. Witnesses:
