Description
MAX RUBIN, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 3, 1908.
Application met my 1.1907. seria No. 381.807.
ATo all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
My im rovement relates to clench buckles compose of two pieces and my objects are to so construct the buckle that the web will entirely cover the back to protect the garments of the wearer, to so arrange the parts that the buckle will always lie absolutely flat on the web under all conditions, to so arrange the ears and pivots that a webbing slot of maximum size is formed when the buckle is open but which is almost filled up when the buckle is closed thereby holding the web firmly against slipping. I attain these objects in the manner shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fi re 1 1s an inside view of my open buck e; Fig. 2 a like outside view; Fig. 8 a
. front view 'of the buckle in closed position;
4 a like view of the back; and Fig. 5 a sectional view of the buckle on a web.
The buckle comprises a back 1 having the lside edges turned to form forward and upward extensions 2, 2. A lever or front comprises a finger piece 3 and is formed with means to engage the extensions on the back which consist, as shown, of the pivots 4, 4 which engage holes in the extensions thereby forming a pivot or hinge joint between the two pieces. This construction affords an unusually large4 opening between the parts for webbing purposes when the buckle is open as the pivots are carried on the finger piece and the extensions in a plane forward of the back; The metal forming the front or lever art is lthen bent into the form of a roll 5 behind the pivots which roll is so proportioned that it alines with the back when the buckle is closed and substantially iills the space between the two parts. The metal is t en reversely curved below the roll forming a clamping edge adapted to press the web between it and the back. This edge may be provided with teeth 6. The ends of the top o f the roll may be raised so as to come flush with the tops of the extensions 2, 2. lhe roll 5 is smooth and does .not cut or tear the p A. s
webasfa toothed lever does when the buckle is opened or closed for adjustment of the web. As the teeth of the front are located below the hinge and entirely 'in front of the back they draw directly away from the web and do not tear it or pull threads out as the toothed lever does in passing over the edge of the back. l
In use the web is looped around the back and sewed, the free end being carried up between the front and back through the opening. When the buckle is closed the web is pinched or gripped between the roll 5 and the edge of the back 1. The holding properties are further increased by the action of the teeth 6 pressing the web against the back 1.
To make the buckle hold tighter on the web' the top edge of the back may be bent inwards as shown in Fig. 5.
I claim 1. A buckle comprising a back havin upward and forward extensions; and a ont having a finger piece, means near thetop of the finger piece for hinging the front to the extensions on the back, and a roll on the top part of the front adapted to Asubstantially fill the space between the front and back when the buckle is closed and reversely curved to extend below the top edge of the back whereby the top edge of the back rests in the reversed curve.
2. A buckle comprising a back havin upward and forward extensions; and a ront having a finger piece; means near the top edge of the finger piece engaging the extensions on the back; a roll along the top part of the front adapted to substantially fill the space between the front and the back when the buckle is closed and reversely curved to extend below the top edge of the back, said front having a clamping edge below said top part.
3. A buckle comprising a back having upward and forward extensions; and a front provided with a roll along the top part adapted to clamp a web against the back; means near its upper edge for en aging the extensions on the back and a series of teeth on the front below the top adapted to press the web between them and the inside ofthe back.
4. J1 buckle comprising a back having upward and forward apertured extensions; and
In testimony whereof I have hereunto suhsoribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
