Description
W I L L I AM F. S H EfRlVI A N, OF B SPO T, A I N E. Letters Patent No. 87,015, dated Februa/ry. 16, 1.869.`I I` IMPROVED PROCESS OF REPAIIRING- CRUCIBLES.
The Schedule referred to :h1 these Letters Patent andV making part of the same.
To all whom itma/y concern Be it known thatI, WILLrAM F. SHERMAN, of Bucksport, in the eounty of Hancock, inthe State of Maine,
'have invented a new and Improved Mode or Process of Renewing Crueibles; and I d0 hereby declare that the 'following is a full and exact description thereof, referenceA being had to the accompanying drawings; making a part 'of this specification, in which- Figure l s-a view of the oruoible either when worn Y out or having stood three heats. n Figure 2 is a view of theorueiblewhen renewed. The nature of my invention consists in dipping vthe crueible into asolution of olay, lead, and mica-sand,
made thin by water, so that about one-sixteenth of an ineh will stiek to the eruoible at each dipping.
erueible, treated in this manner, will run six heats Y' instead of three, and at very small oost, as'the old` oruoibles, when pounded or ground up, may be added to the new clay, lead, and Inioa.
I do not claim the plastering up an old Crucible, for it is well known that it will crack oi and dry, and stick to the -coal and slag; nor do I claim the use of old oruoibles.
Gla/17m.
I claim the process of dipping the erueible several times in a thin solution of plumbago, mica, and clay, or their equivalent, for the purpose hereindeseribed.
Y WILLIAM F. SHERMAN.
Witnesses:
E. R. PLAYLE, Lizzm PLAYLE.
