Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFTIon I. sTnAnNs, on HoNnsDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN SIPHONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. i, dated September 25, 1866.
To all whom it lmay concern:
Be it known that I, E. 1. STnARNs. of Honesdale, Vayne county, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Sivenlarging the discharge end ot' a siphon, and
in using in such end a sponge, or other suitable material, for ltering the gold or silver solution, as the case lnay be, which is passingA through thesiphon, whereby the desired result is obtained and the passage of the solution or liquid through the siphon insured.
In the accompanying plate of drawing my improved siphon is illustrated, the` tigure being a central vertical section of the same.
A in the drawing represents a siphon, the construction of which, except so far as the present invention extends, is similar to the ordinary siphons, and is used and operated substantially the saine.`
B is the end or shorterleg of the siphon, Which is to be inserted in the liquid that is to be drawn through it, and C vthe longer leg. 1n the discharging end or` nozzle D ot' the leg C a piece of sponge, E, or other suitable filtering medium, is inserted, as plainly shown in the drawing, and above such sponge, at G, thev said Siphon leg C is considerably enlarged or increased in size, so as to increase t he facility with which the liquid passing' through the siphoncan escape therefrom through the filter'- ing medium inserted in its discharging end or nozzle.
From the above description of my i mproved Siphon, it is plainly apparent that it is especially adapted for use in connection with the baths employed in photography, although it can be applied to other and various purposes.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A siphon having its discharge end or nozzle enlarged and provided with a sponge or other suitable filtering medium, substantially as described, and for the purpose specied.
E I. STEARNS.
Witnesses JNo. K. JENKINS, JN0. MoIN'rosH.
