To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT R. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kuler, in the county of Van Buren and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag- Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a bag-holder, and has for its object a simple and efficient device of this kind, together with a hopper for filling the bag and clamping the same to the holder.

A further object is to provide a bag-holder which is simple in operation and by means of which the bag will be securely held for filling, and is readily removable when filled.

Another object is to provide a bag-holder which can be removed from its supportingframe when not needed. together with other novel features of construction to be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of the invention showing the bag in position for filling. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the position of the parts when the holder is empty. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the side-bars or legs of a truck, and 6 a handle extending across and connecting the upper ends thereof. To the front of the side-bars are secured laterally projecting stems 7 having recesses 8 in'their outer ends in which the bag-holder is seated and is sup ported in horizontal position. The bagholder comprises side-bars 9 connected at one end by a cross-bar 10. At the opposite end, the side-bars have alined openings to receive a rod 11 on which the hopper 12 is pivotally mounted. Between its ends, the sidebars are also connected by a cross-bar 13. The side-bars 9 and cross-bars 10 and 13 form a substantially rectangular frame in which the lower end of the hopper is adapted to seat. The 'bag 14 will be placed inside the frame, and the lower end of the hopper placed in the mouth of the bag, whereby it will be securely clamped between the frame and the hopper.

On opposite sides of the hopper are secured supporting arms 15 which extends rearwardly and downwardly therefrom, as indicated at 16 and have near their ends alined openings to receive the pivot-rod 11. When frame is prevented from tipping forwardly by the engagement of the side-bars 9 with the handles 6 and with the stems 7. Adjacent the openings in the bars 9 through which the pivot-rod extends, and in front thereof, is a lug 17 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.

In use, the bag will be placed inside the bag-holding frame, and the hopper swung over into the mouth of the bag to clamp the same to the frame as already described, after which the bag is ready for filling through the hopper. To remove the bag after it is filled, the hopper will be swung rearwardly as shown in Fig. 2 which releases the bag from the holding-frame. The rearward swing of the hopper is limited by the engagement of the lower ends of the arms 16 with the lugs 17. When the arms strike the lugs as stated, the side-bars swing upwardly until they engage the handles 6 which prevents the hopperifrom falling back out of reach. This upward movement of the side-bars also assists the withdrawal of the bag-holder from the bag.

The device herein described can be fitted to any ordinary truck and when not in use it can be readily removed by taking out the pivot-rod 11 which releases the hopper and permits the bag-holding frame to be taken off the side-bars of the truck.

I claim A bag-holder comprising a supportingframe, stems projecting from the front end thereof, a bag-holding frame seating onthe stems, a rod passing through the bag-holding frame behind the supporting-frame, lugs projecting from the bag-holding frame in advance of the rod, and a hopper seating in the bag-holding frame, and having rearwardly presented arms pivotally connected to the rod and engageable with the lug to limit the rearward swing of the hopper.
