To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, PERKINS C. MOCAUS- LAND, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof \Valla Walla, in the county of \Valla Walla and State of \Vashington, have invented a new and Improved Bag- Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to holders for paper bags or similar articles, and has reference more particularly to a device of this class which comprises a frame formed into a socket adapted to receive and hold a plurality of bags, a back, and a movable keeper for releasably holding the bags against the back.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and durable holder for use by retail merchants and others, as a container for pluralities of paper bags and other, similar articles, which can be inexpensively manufactured from easily obtainable, and cheap material such as wire, which may comprise any desired number of units for holding bags of different sizes, in which the bags are securely held against accidental displacement, and from which they can be easily removed, one by one, as desired for use, and which is provided with means whereby the holder can be easily suspended from a nail, a hook, or any other suitable support.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an em bodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, showing a plurality of bags held in position thereby.

Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that while in the form illustrated for example, herewith, I have shown a holder capable of use with two different sizes, I can use holders designed to receive bags of one size, or bags of more than two difierent sizes. Certain of the details shown for example in the accompanying drawings form no part of the invention, and can be varied in accordance with individual preference and special conditions, without departing from the underlying spirit of the invention.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, I provide a holder which is fashioned from wire of suitable thickness and material, and which consists preferably, of a single piece of wire appropriately bent into form. It comprises two units or individual holders A and B, for bags of different sizes. The respective unitshave normally vertical back members 10 and 10", which are substantially alined, and superposed. The member B, at the lower end has a socket 11.", corresponding to a socket 11 of the upper unit. The sockets are formed by forwardly disposed parts 12 and 12 at the lower ends of the members 10 and 10*, upwardly disposed parts 13* and 18 at the forward extremities of the parts 12 and 12*, laterally disposed parts 14 and 14* at the upper extremities of the elements 13 and 13 and rearwardly disposed parts 15 and 15 joined to the extremities of the parts 14 and 1 1". The members 15 are joined by a crossbar 16 at the rear, which extends transversely across, and adjacent to the members 10 The parts 15 at the rear have inwardly disposed extensions 1'7 which join the back uprights 10.

At the upper ends of the members 10 and 10 are laterally offset parts 18 and 18 The offset parts 18 are connected by means of short, vertical members 19, to the parts 12. In the present form of the de' vice, the holder terminates at its upper end, beyond the ofisets 18 in rounded extremities 20 I employ keepers 21 and 21 of U-form, and terminating respectively, in eyes 22 and 22 The keepers, by 'means of the eyes, are movably mounted at the respective ofisets 18 and 18 so that they can swing toward and away from the back mem bers 10 and 10 As is indicated in dotted outline in Fig. 1, and as is shown in Fig. 2, a number of bags of appropriate size is positioned in each of the units of the holder. The lower ends, that is the closed ends of the bags, are positioned in the sockets, resting upon the parts 12 and 12 and held in position by the parts 13 and 13 1 1 and 1 1", 15 and 15 16 and 17 The keepers encompass the upper ends of the groups of bags and hold them removably in position. When it is desired to withdraw a bag from the holder, the outermost one of the desired size is grasped at the upper bottom fold as is shown in Fig. 2, and is pulled out from the socket and from the keeper, at the open front of the socket.

I employ a plate 23 having at the sides spaced sleeves 24, by means of which it is secured upon the parts 10 and 19, between the sides of the holder back. The plate serves to hold rigidly the parts in place relatively to each other, and is provided with a key-hole slot 25, by means of which the holder can be easily suspended from a nail or other suitable support.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A device of the class described, comprising a frame fashioned from a single wire, and having spaced side members constituting a back, and forwardly, upwardly and laterally offset members forming at the lower end of said back a socket adapted to receive and hold a plurality of bagsjoined by a cross bar extending transversely of and positioned against said back, and a U- shaped keeper pivotally secured to said back, above said socket, and adapted to encompass the bags to hold the same releasably in position.

A device of the class described, comprising a frame fashioned from wire and having normally vertical members constituting a back, said vertical members, at the lower ends being extended to form successive forwardly, upwardly, laterally and rearwardly disposed parts forming a socket open at the front and adapted to receive a plurality of bags, and a keeper movably secured to said back and adapted to engage the bags at the upper ends thereof.

A device of the class described, comprising a frame fashioned from a single wire being bent to form side members constituting a back, and forwardly, upwardly and laterally offset members forming at the lower end of said back a socket adapted to receive and hold a plurality of bags, said side members having at the upper ends offset parts, and a U-shaped keeper having eyes whereby it is pivotally mounted at said offset parts and is movable toward and away from said back, said keeper being adapted to encompass the bags at the upper en s.

4. A device of the class described, comprising a frame fashioned from wire and consisting of two superposed units, each of said units having a back consisting of spaced members, and at the lower end thereof, a socket adapted to receive a plurality of bags, and a movable keeper adapted to engage the bags to hold the same releasably in position, and a plate secured to said spaced members of one of said backs and having means whereby the device can be suspended from a support.
