To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM S. Josnrns, a citizen of the United States, residing at New'York, county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guard Devices, of
- which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to guard devices for jewelry, and ,more particularly to watch guards.
The object of my' invention is to provide a f guard of simple construction which may be economically manufactured, readily secured body of the wearer.
the :wcompanying drawings, in which-- Figure l is a plan \ieiwof the guard, em-
bodying the improvements ofmy invention;
and Fig. l is a view showing my guard .as applied to a watch in a pocket of the wearer;
My invention comprises, bromllyythe construction of a safety pin with a loop or ring at the back thereof. In the drawing, 1 indicates the pin, 2 the spring, I; the back, 4 the guard ring, and 5 the catch.
The. operation is as'follows: The: guardis secured by the pin to the inside of the pocket, in which the watch iscarried, and the watchchain passes throiu h the loop orguard 4, as shown in Fig. 2. lhe wearer may-ren'iove the watch in the ordinary manner when wishing to observe the time, the slack of the ehain'tpassing through the guard ring 4. But shoul any other person attem t to remove lie pocket by Specification of Letters Patent. Application and July 20. 1907. Y Serial No. 384.791.
Patented Feb. 4, 1908 l the chain, the watch will'become engagedbv be prevented thereby.
It is preferable to make the pinf spring,
iece which can readily be accomplished by 'end ing a piece of wire in the desired form," as,
jbaek, guard ringandicatch of one shown in Fig. 1.
[do not limit my invention specifically to a watch guard or the particular construction shown, as it is obvious that it may be used as well as a safety appliance for any other piece of jewelry, carried in the'same manner.
What I claim is-- substantially circular guard ring secured to the back thereof. .2. A guard device, comprising a pin member, a s n'ing member, a back member, a substantiaily circular guard ring secured to the back member, and a catch member. 3. In a device of the character described, a substantially circular ring, arms extending from each side thereof, a spring and pin at "the end of one arm, and a catch at the end of pin.
ring.
5. tially eircularring formed in a piece ofiwire, the ends of the wire twisted upon themselves and extended in opposite d1recti0ns,.a loop formed one end and benttoward the ring, a spring formed. in the other end, and a; pin extending therefrom to engage tho-loop.
