UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. SCI-ILEICHER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE EBER- HARD MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, A CORPORA- TION OF OHIO.
BUCKLE- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 16, 1907.
Application filed June 14, 1906. Serial N 321,629.
To all whom, it may aoncerm.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SoIILEI- CHER, of Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 is a plan view of a buckle embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a section on the line II II of Fig. 1.
The object of my invention is to provide a buckle which can be manufactured rapidly fromwire at a lowcost and Whichwill be sufliciently strong and durable for many purposes for which buckles are required. I
In carrying out my invention I take a single piece of Wire of the proper size and bend its end portions to form, respectively, the tuck-loop 2'and the tongue-loop 3. The intermediate portion of the Wire is bent to form an oblique transverse connection 4, which is common to the two loops. The free end portions 5 of the wire are bent transversely inward, and their ends are cut obliquely to fit against the oblique sides of the connection 4. One end portion 5 is also flattened, as indicated at 7, and is fitted against a flattened portion 8 of the member 4, extending through the eye 9 of the tongue 10, which. is pivoted on the member 4. After the frame has been bent to form, the free end portions 5are my hand.
The' advantages of my invention consist in frames can be manufactured and in the strength of construction, due to the manner in Which the free end portions of the wire are braced against the intermediate connecting member of the loops.
What I claim is 1. A buckle having its frame formed from a single piece of wire, Whose end portions are bent to form tuck and tongue loops respectively, with its intermediate portion forming a transverse oblique connection between said loops, the free ends of the wire being abutted against opposite sides of said connection, and one of said ends being reduced and secured to a reduced portion'of the connection to form a bearing for the eye of the buckle-tongue;
substantially as described.
2. A buckle having a frame composed of a single piece of wire bent to form tuck and tongue loops, with atransverse member con necting the two loops and forming a bearing for the buckle-tongue, one of the free ends of the wire being reduced and fitted to a reduced portion of the transverse member to form a part of the tongue-bearing; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set WILLIAM A. SCHLEICHER.
