DEVICE FOR FASTENING A PANEL OR PLATE T0 AN OVEN-DOOR 0R OTHER STOVE MEMBER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1907.
Application filed December 14, 1906. Serial No. 347,741.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC BROOKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pottstown, county of Montgomery, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Device for Fastening a Panel or Plate to an Oven-Door or other Stove Member.
My invention consists of a novel fastening for a panel or plate with an oven door or other stove member as Will be hereinafter described and the novel features pointed out in the claims.
Figures l and 2 represent elevations of opposite sides of an oven door and a plate with a fastening `device therefor embodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section on line :c-x Fig. l. Fig. 4 represents a view of the interior of a portion of the door on an enlarged scale. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view of a detached member of the invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings: A represents the door oi an oven and B designates the panel or face plate thereon, the same excepting the features of my invention applied thereto being as usual.
The subsequent description will be limited to the fas tening of a panel on an oven door. Connected with the panel is the post O, on the end of which is the limb D, forming comparatively an L-shaped lug which projects horizontally rearward from said panel. In the door A, is the slot or opening E, through which the limb D and adjacent portion D/ of the post is adapted to pass so that said limb appears on the inner side of the door and is removed a short distance therefromforming a passage for a purpose to be hereinafter-explained. Connected with the door on the inner face thereof adjacent to the slot E is the key F for engagement with the limb D, the same consisting of a plateG preferably of segmental form, and a can or cam shaped ange H on the periphery thereof, said plate being connected with the door A by the pivot J, the same passing through open* ings K and L in the respective parts and being headed or otherwise secured to the same; whereby the key may move on and be guided by the back or inner face of the door in directions to the right and left, as indicated by the arrows, Fig. 5. l
It will be seen that when the panel is located on the door, and the lug occupies its operative position, the key is struck or pressed so as to turn whereby its cam H enters the aforesaid passage between the wall of the door and the limb D and rides against the latter, thus, owing to its rise gradually but powerfully drawing said limb inwardly into the space of the door while at the same time the curved periphery of the key engages the portion D of the post and presses the latter against the opposite wall of the opening E and consequently forcibly seating the panel on the door, and tightly fastening it thereon. In cases of requirement a smart blow is imparted to the key to operate it in the opposite direction, when the cam gradually releases its pressure on the limb D and then completely clears the same when the panel is removed from the door, the lug emerging from the opening E, the effect of which is evident. It will also be noticed that the exterior of the plate B presents an unbroken surface, no screw pin or other fastening for the post O appearing on said surface and the fastening means employed, are devoid of heaviness, complication or expensiveness, and so the device is practical for the purpose intended.
The inncr terminal of the lug composed of the post C- and limb D and the opening E, are what may be called key-shape, that is one portion of each is wide, and another portion is narrow, so when said terminal enters said opening it is guided therein and serves to locate the panel properly on the door. Then when the location of the parts is accomplished, the post occupies the wide part of the opening and se is prevented from shifting as it can not enter the narrow part of said opening while the limb D is in position to be engaged by the cam H for tightening purposes.
`Having thus described my invention, what l. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. In a fastening of the character described, a stove member having an opening therein, a face plate having a post with a limb at a right angle thereto insertible through said opening, and a key movably mounted upon the inner face of said stove member and having a wedging face engageable with said limb and constructed to draw said post inward and a curved periphery to simultaneously force said post lengthwise of said opening. Y
2. The combination with a stove member having an openingy a face plate having a post with a limb at its inner end both post and limb being adapted to be inserted through said opening whereby the face plate is, by the insertion of said post, properly located on the stove member, and a key pivotally mounted upon the inner face of the stove member and having a wedging face adapted to engage said limb of the post to draw the latter inwardly and constructed to simultaneously move the post at right angles to its inward movement and hold said post against the edge of said opening.
3. In a device of the character described, a stove member having a substantially keyshaped opening therein, a stove plate having a lug to engage the wider portion of said opening and an angular l'limb otl less width to engage the narrow portion of said opening, and a pivoted cam on the inner face of the stove member said cam adapted to engage said' limb between the same and the stove member and to move said lug in to the narrow portion of said opening.
