TOBACCO-PIPE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application ilctlJannarv 18,1906. Serial No. 296,633.
To (1i/rl wim/rt il' min/f :foncer/t.-
Be it known that l, UnAnLns Linnnno, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in tl e county of St Louis and Stato ol Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful lu'qiroveiuents in Tobacco-Pipes g and l do declare tl e following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in tre art to which it appertains to malte and use the saine.
Tris invention relates to improvements in tobacco-pipes.
The object of the invention is to provide a pipe having means wlereby nicotin will be caught and prevented from entering the mouth of the smoker and means for preventing tile saliva from entering the bowl of the ipe.
A further object is to provide means whereby th e pipe may be readily cleaned.
lith the above and otlier objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arran ement of parts, as will be hereinafter descri )ed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a pipe constructed in accordance with tle invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal 'vertical sectional view of tle saine, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view through the stem and drip-plug of the pipe.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the pipe, the bowl ol which. is provided with a socket or short hollow steinsection 2, tfe outer end of which is provided wi interior screw-threads 3. Arranged within the sh ort hollow stein-section of socket 2 is a centrally-disposed draft-tube 4, the inner end il" which is threaded and is adapted to be screwed into the bowl of the pipe, the passage in the tube forming a continuation or' the draft-hole in the bottom of tlfe pipe-bowl. Adapted to be screwed into the threaded end of tl e socket or stem-section il is a main stein-section 5, said section being formed of any suitable material. In tl e outer end of the main stem-section 5 is formed interior screw-threads 6, and into said threaded end is adapted to be screwed the threaded inner end of a mouthpiece 7. This mouthpiece is provided on its inner end with a reduced extension 8, which extends into the main Stem-section a suitable distance, as shown.
In tle lower side of the socket or short stein-section 2 adjacent to tlfe inner end of the saine is formed a threaded drip-opening S), in wl'icli is adapted to bc screwed a dripplug 10, said plug being preferably formed hollow or cup-shaped, as shown.
When the pipe is used, the smoke will pass tlnough the draft-tube 4, main stem 5, and the mouthpiece 7. The nicotin from the bowl of the pipe will run through the drafttube 4 and from the saine into the main Qter-section 5, from whence it will run into the hollow drain-plug 10. The reduced cxtension S on the inner end of the mouthpiece will prevent the nicotin from running into the sniokers mouth. By providing the draft-tube 5, wh ich is of less dinneter than the main stem, the saliva from the mouthpiece 'will be prevented from passing into the V)owl of the pipe, Will be understood, thus keeping the tobacco therein dry.
In cleaning the pipe the drip-plug l0 is unscrewed from the socket 2, and, if desired, the draft-tube, main stem,l and mouthpiece of the pipe n ay be readily unscrewed and separated, teus greatly facilitating the cleaning of said parts.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without recurring i' more extended eX lanation.
Vari. us changes in the erm, roportion, and tl". e einer details of construction may be resortedl to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ism- The herein-described tobacco-pipe prouioaitng with that. fornied by the countep my hand in presence of two subscribing Withoro of the short stein, and the mouthpiece messes. fitted 111 the outer end of" the main stem and i having the I'edueed inner portion of loss di- CHARLES LINDBERG 5 ametier than and extending into the bore Witnessms:V

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set JOHN A. ISLAND.
