Description

No. 842,645. PATENTED JAN. 29, 190.7.
T.GALLAGHER.
PICTURE AND MIRROR FASTENER.
APPLICATION IILED JUNE 27. 1906.
THOMAS GALLAGHEE, or BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA.
PICTURE AND MIRROR FASTENR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1907.
Application med 3.11119 27, 1906 Seal N0. 323729 To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS GALLAGHER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Butler, in the county of Butler and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture and Mirror Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to mirror-fasteners; and its object is to provide simple, inexpensive, and effective means for securing a mirror within a frame. n
The invention is especially designed for use with what are known as chipped mirrors, or such as have their edges formed with indented scallops.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and its novel features will be defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a mirror and frame with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective and on an enlarged scale of one of the fastening devices removed, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line :r of Fig. l.
The reference-numeral l designates a mir- .ror having its edges chipped by a suitable tool to provide scallops or rounded indenta-` tions 2. This character of mirror-glass is well-known on the market, the chipped edges being more ornamental than beveled edges.
The mirror is Supported within a frame 3 to provide a continuous flange 4, upon which the edges of the mirror rest. At each corner of the frame is secured one of my fasteners, each consisting of a corner-iron comprising two right-angular arms 5, each formed with a lug 6, said lugs being preferably of semicircular form to `adapt them to fit within the adj acent indentations 2 of the mirror. The fastener is formed with screw-holes 7 and 8 to receive screws 9 for securing the fastener to the mirror-frame.
It will be ,noted that the screw-holes 7 are formed adjacent to the ends of the arms 4 and 5, While the holes 8 are disposed one on either side of the angle-point atthe juncture of the two arms. This location of the screwholes 8 iS of importance, for the reason that the screws passing through said holes enter the molding forming the frame at opposite sides of the miter-joint at the corners of the frame, and the fasteners thus serve as corner-stays for the frame, as well as securing devices for the mirror.
The backing 10 of the frame is secured by the usual fasteners 11 driven into the inner edges of the frame or by any other suitable means.
The improved corner-fasteners are preferably made in fanciful designs to add to the Aornamental appearance of the mirror-frame,
and I would have it understood that the invention is not restricted to the construction shown in the drawings, but includes such modifications in shape and design as may be included within the scope of the claims.
TWhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a frame, of a mirror secured therein, and having edge indentations, and corner-fasteners for said frame, and mirror, each comprising two angularly disposed arms secured to the front surface of the frame, and formed with inwardly-projecting lugs overlapping the mirror and fitting within adjacent indentations thereof.
2. The combination with a frame, of a mirror secured therein and formed along its front edges with indentations, and fasteners for said frame and mirror comprising cornerbrackets consisting of angularlyedisposed arms, formed with openings for securing" devices, and each of Said arms having a lug projecting from its inner edge and fitting one of the indentations of the mirror.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
j THOMAS GALLAGHER.
