INVENT RQ M TNEESEEI UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
"FRANCIS G. HODGES, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO SIDNEY O. BIGNEY, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
BRACELET.
Patented J an. 22, 1907.
Application filed July 24, 1906. Serial No. 327,492-
- citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new 1 and useful Improvements in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to extension-bracelets, and has for its object a structure adapted to application and removal from the arms over various sized hands.
To the above end essentially my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein' Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bracelet embodying my invention, showing the parts in closed position; Fig. 2, a like elevation of the same, showing parts partially opened; Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 1, wherein the ends of the bar are transposed; Fig. 4, a rear view of the jointed portion of the bracelet, and Fig. 5 an edge view of the jointed portion.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
The bracelet comprises a ring or band A, of springy material, whose end portions overlap and whose extremities are upturned to form posts a and a. Fixed by solder or otherwise to the posts a and a are retaining-balls B and C, respectively. A bar D is provided having upon its ends rings or openings (1 (1, through which loosely pass, respectively, the posts a and a. The front of the bar D is of ornamental form or carries an ornament E.
The operation of my bracelet is as follows: The posts a and a normally rest against or adjacent the body A of the ring. Inpassing the bracelet over the hand the ring expands, as shown in Fig. 2, wherein the bar D is shown in a vertical position. The bracelet, however, may be expanded until the bar D is in horizontal alinement with the ring ends. After the ring passes over the hand the springy character of the body A causes the ends and bar to refold into the positions shown in Figs. 1 or 3.
What I claim is In a bracelet the combination with a ring of springy material having overlapping ends, of balls upon the extremities of the overlapping ends, and a bar provided with an opening in each end to receive the overlapping ends adjacent the balls.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS G. HODGES.
