Be it known that I, JULIUS DINHOFER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Finger-Rings, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a finger ring or like article of jewelry in which a pleasing and artistic appearance is produced with the use .of a minimum amount of material.

A further object of this invention is to provide a perforated, ornamental gem-holding ring with an engraving receiving plate without detracting from the appearance of the ring in any material particular.

With these, and other objects which may hereinafter appear, in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts set forth below and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof in which:

Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of my improved ring;

Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same, and

Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.

Throughout the various views of the drawings similar reference characters designate similar parts.

In the preferred embodiment of my invention, as disclosed in the accompanying drawing, 1 indicates the body of the ring, which is preferably formed from a strip of material transversely bent substantially concavo-conveX in cross section. The ring is provided with a plurality of apertures or gem receiving openings 2 in which the gems 3 are set. The ring may be of any desired design, particularly of the filigree, scroll work or open work character which provides a very pleasing and artistic appearance with the use of a minimum of material.

If the ring is a wedding ring as disclosed in the drawing, it is essential that the same be provided with a place on its innerside to receive suitable engraving; Accordingly,

the ring with the plate 4 which connects the two longitudinal edges of the strip forming the ring; This plate 1 may be of any desired deslgn, shape or form and may be of a sufficient length to receive the desired amount of engraving and yet leave the major portion of the rear 0r concave side of the ring uncovered so that light can readily reach the rear faces of the gems and enhance the brilliancy thereof.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that I have provided a ring, light in structure, wherein a minimum amount of material is utilized and an artistic and pleasing article is provided.

WVhile I have shown and described my invention as used in conjunction with a wedding ring, it will be quite obvious that my invention is not to be restricted thereto, as it can be readily used in conjunction with other articles of jewelry including rings of all kinds, bracelets and the like.

Having described my invention, what I claim is I A wedding ring or like article comprising a perforated strip of material adapted to hold gems, said strip beingconcavo-convex in cross section with its concave face on the inside of the ring, and a relatively short engraving receiving plate covering a portion of the concave face of the ring and secured thereto leaving the major portion of said concave face and the rear faces of the gems held in the ring uncovered.
