TOACCO-PIPE. I
Specification of Letters latent. Application filed February I, 1906- Serial No. 299029- No. 80,B67. Patented Jan. 8, 1907.
'To all whom/it may concern. l
Be it known that I, PATRICK ALFRE KENNA, a subject of the King of Great Brit-- ain and Ireland, residin at Sydne in the State of New South Wa es, in the ommonwealth of Australia, have invented a new and useful Tobacco-Pipe, of which the following is a s ecification.
his invention relates to an improved tobacco-pipe, and has for its object the construction of a pipe the principle of which is to prevent the saliva from coming in contact with the tobacco within the bowl, so that cool (11 smoke is drawn fromthe mouthpiece.
he main features of this pipe area bowl of any convenient shape communicating by a narrow assage. at its lower part with a cylindrica space bored out in the stem, this narrow assage being concentric with the cylindrica bore in the stem. The mouthpiece, which fits into the free end of the stem, carries a removable cylinder forming a salivachamber closed at its farther end and by means of a small tube at the cent-er of the closed end communicating with the passa e leadingto the bowl of the pipe, the mout .sho
piece being also Iprovided with a narrow part orming a sma tube projecting into the saliva-chamber; but in order that this invention-may be properl understood reference of drawings, in which- Figure 1 isa longitudinal section of the arrangement. Fig. 2 is a plan of the mouth- 3 is an end view of the same.
will now be made to t e accompanying sheet iece. F1 4 is'a ongitudinal section of the'sahvamouthpiece c, as shown, This ca is closed at the end nearest the bowl, butas an inwardly-project-ing' tube j of suflicient diameter to free] receive the tube a". The cap d is hereina or referred to as the salivachamber.
e is asmall tube projecting from the mouthpiece and extending within the saliva-chamc 18 t e mouthpiece, which fits in the usual an inwardly-extending tubular e is a cap fitting on the end of e. e represents perforations provided in the ea c.
In Fig. 6 a modification is shown. In this case the saliva-chamber, which is of an suitable metal, such as silver, is external at:
tached to the stem of the pipe an the mouthpiece c inserted in the usual manner.
It will readily be seen that when the smoke by suction is drawn from the bowl a through the passage 1 and the tube f into the saliva-' chamber (1 all dust, nicotin, moisture, and other ob'ectionable matter will be deposited in the c amber, where will also 'collectthe saliva which may find its way through the mouthpiece, and a pure cool smoke will be the result, In order to clean the pi e,'itis only necessary'to withdraw the i'hou iece, together with the saliva-chamber, ta e off the saliva-chamber, and clean both inthe usual manner. In the case of the modification shown in Fig.6 it will'only be necessary to remove the mouthpiece in order to empty the saliva-chamber. What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp i A tobacco-pipe comprisin a bowl having a stem with asmoke-passage t erethrough and a cylindrical chamber within the free end of the stem of larger dimensions than the smokeassage, a tube contained within the saliva-c amber and inserted into the smokepassage, 'a mouthpiece inserted in the free end of' the stem having a smoke-passage therethrough alined with the smoke-passage of the stem, and a projection-at its inner end extending toward the bowl havmia smokepassage incontinuation of the smo eassage of the mouthpiece, a perforated cap tted on the end of the projection to perform the function of-a baflie for the smoke-passe e thro h the projection and mouthpiece an a tube t- Y ted on the end of the mouthpiece within the cylindrical chamber to inclose the ca and having the end adjacent to the bowl 0 osed with to inclose the first-mentioned tube, said tubular part having a bore to permit of the "usage" 7 of the smoke from the bowl through t e stem into the last-mentioned tube. In testimony whereof I aflix my in presence of two witnesses. .PATRICKALFBED KENNA.
