Specification of Letters Patent f Application filed August 18,1905. Serial No. 274.769.
y as a track-guide Patented March 5, 1907.,
and keeper `for `the hanger.
Be it known that I, GUsTAvUs WIDEMAN, J At each endet the bar an eare3 is formed anda citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in that type of door-hangers in. which there is a hinged connection between the wheelcarr`y ing frame and the door-connecting'strap.
The improvements are in the construction of the door-strap. and the means connecting the strap to the Wheel-frame; and the especial objects attained are adj ustabilit y between the said parts, whereby' the varyin conditions met with in the application an use of such devices are provided for.
V cross-section on the line 4. 4 of Fig. 1.
wheelc, mounted 'therein In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of a hanger constructed according to -my invention. elevation of said hanger. Fig. 3 is a crosssection on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a F ig. 5 is a detail of the link which forms an important element of my invention. Fig. 6 1s. a detail in cross-section of the link, and Fig. '7 is an edge view of the Wheel-hanger alone.
. Referring to the details of the drawing, A represents a portion, of a door to which my imjlproved hanger is applied. p
represents the door-strap, which in this instance is a piece of sheet metal bent at right 'angles to form a horizontal iiange t', which extends over the upper edge of the door and at a slight distance above the same. In the center of the strap-flange is a slot bi, ,whichl is open at one end, and on each side of said slot are formed slots b3 b3, which are parallel With the slot b2.
C represents the Wheel carrying frame Which is preferably formed of sheet "metal bent to form a housing for a groovedv tracl- The lower porM tion of the traine is bent to form a horizontal .-step eL1 and a doWnWardly-extending terminal portion c2. c3 is cut.
D represents the track, on which the wheel In each edge of the step a notch c travels and which serves as a support for Fig. 2 is a side.
is provided with a hole e', which is adapted to' receive the pintlef. At the junction of the bar and each of the ears an inwardly-extending ing e2 is formed, and said lugs t the notches c in the edges of the Wheel-carrying trarne when the parts are assembled in operarl tive position, and thus serve to hold the bar in a vertical position. Y
F represents a fiat metal stra having each end bent up at' right angles, and) said bent-up portions are perforated to receive the ends of the pintle fjand the middle part has a hole in the center to receive a short screw-bolt G, which passes upwardly through the strap and through the slot b2 in the flange b of thestrap B and 'is supplied with a `nut Which bears upon the upper side of the flange vand serves to lock the strap upon the latter, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. As the slot b2 is o en at one end, the parts can be disconnecte by loosening the nut on the 'bolt G- and removing the pintlef. As theJ Width of the strap F is less than the length of the slots t3, a certain amount of lateral adjustment is possible in the relative positions oi'strap and flange b, as will be apparent from Fig. 4.
isy
In a hanger constructed as described it will be apparent that the door-strapthrough its connection with the strap F 'will swingv outwardly on the pintle f as a pivot,.'while the bar E through its en 'agement with the' notches c3 in the arm C wi l be held in a vertical position irrespective of the outward swing of the door. It will also be apparent that as the downwardlybent end ca of the arm C terminates .near the :lla-nge t it Will serve asma 'stop against the swinging of the door inwardly or in the direction opposite to, that indicated by the dotted lines in Fig.
1. In a door-hanger, the combination of a Wheel carrying freine, strap, and means connecting said strap and frame, said means comprising twov members hingedly connected, one oit said members being rigidly connected with the door-strap,- and the other member being detachably connected with the Wheel-:traine and constructed to form a track-guide. i
2. In a doorelianger, the combination ci `wheel carrying frame, a `door wnpportinnr strap, vand meer@ connecting said strap an i ICO frame, said means comprising tWo members l? wheel carrying frame, a door supportingf strap and means connecting said strap amv lframe, said means comprising two members hingcdljyr connected, one of said .members being adjustably connected with the door-strap, and the other member being,r detachably connected with the Wheel-frame and constructed to 'form a track-guide.
4. .in a door-hanger, the combination. of a Wheel carrying frame, a door supporting 'strap and means connecting saidstrap and frame, said means comprising a member detachably and adjustably mounted on the door-strap, a member detaohably mounted on the vwheel-fratrie and constructed to form a track-guide, and means detachably connecting said members.
5. In a door-hanger, the combination of a Wheel carrying frame, a door supporting strap and means connecting' said frame and stra i, said means coi'i'i]n"isii1r a member rigidly, ad 'ustably and dotacliiably connected with the ilocrlstrap, and a V'member detachablyr connected with. the wheel-frame and constrnvted to forni a track-guide, and detachable means iivotally connecting said inen'xbers together. f i
6. in, a door-hanger, the combination of a wheol-carrying frame, a door-supporting strap, and means connecting said frame and iatiap,'said means comprising a bent metal strap :ictachablyA and adjustably mounted onsaid door-strap, a bar detachably mount-A ed on the Wheel-frame and constructed to formA a trackuide, and a in detachably connecting sai bar with said `ent strap.
7. [n a door-hanger, a wheel-carryingtrarne, a door-supporting strap, and means connecting said strap and frame, said means consisting of'a strap detachably connected with the door-strap and having upwardlybent ends, a bar arranged between theends of said strap and having a {iat'face ada )ted to lie parallel witlithe han er-track, an( a pin lconnecting said strap an( bar.
8. ln a door-hanger,a door-strap adapted to be secured to a door and havin@ a horizontal portion adapted to overlie ffl-ie top of a door, said horizontal portion havinior slots formed therein, a strap detachably connected with said door-strap and adjustably .fitting said slots, a wheel-carrying frame, and means vpivotally connecting said frame with said strap.
9. In a door-hanger, the combination of a Wheel-carryin -fraine having a horizontal foot with noto ies in its edges, a bar arranged on said foot and having portions engaging said notches, said bar constructed to lorm a track-guide, a door-supporting strap having parallel slots, a metal strap having upturned ends pivotally connected with said bar, said strap adjustably Aarranged in said slots, and means detachably connecting said. -rnetal strap with saidl door-strap- In testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
