UNITED srATEs PATENTv oEEroE.
j SAMUEL C. MCCLANAHAN, OE CENTERVILLE, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-HALF TO'ISAAC CARY DANNELLY, OF CENTERVILLE, TENNESSEE.
NECK-YOKE.
Nass/1,317.
Beit known that I, SAMUEL C. MCCLANA- HAN, a citizenof the United States, residing at Centerville, in the county of Hickman and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Neck-Yoke,y of which the followingis a specification. y
This invention relates to neck-yoke portions of harness, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase' the eiiici ency of devices of this character.
With these and other objects 'in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the-same into practical operation, it beingunderstood that various changes lin the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device attached to one end of the body portion of a neck-yoke. Fig.
\. 2 isa transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig.
1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rotative sleevedetached.
`The improved device is designed for attachment to the ends of the wood portion of an ordinary neck-yoke but as the devices are alike for eachy end one only is shown and consists of a bearing portion 10, having a ferrule 11 fitting over the wood portion 12 of the neck-yoke and secured thereto, as by screws 13 or other suitable fastening means. The bearing 10 is smaller than the ferrule portion 11, so that a shoulder 14 is formed at the juncture of the bearing and ferrule.
Rotatively disposed upon the bearing 10 is a sleeve or collar 15, somewhat shorter than the bearing and held in place thereon by a Specification of Letters Patent. Application led April 3, 1906. Serial No. 309,642.
-nected to Patented Oct. 30, 1906.
stop-ring 16, the latter held in place by a screw-pin 17. 4By this means the collar 15 is free to rotate upon the bearing, but is held from longitudinal movement by the shoulder 14 and stop-ring 16. The collar 15 is providedwith annular stopribs 18 19 at the ends, and extending from these ribs at opposite sides of the collar are loops 2O 21, and projecting centrally from the collar intermediate the loops is a stud 22.
The coupling-strap 23, between the horsecollar or other part of the harness, is looped around the collar or sleeve 15 and beneath the loops 18 19 and with the pin or stud 22 projecting through an aperture in the strap. By this simple means the strap is irmly conthe collar 15 and rotates therewith upon the bearing 10, so that friction comes almost entirely between metal parts and not between the leather and metal.
The device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured, and can be adapted to any size or form of neck-yoke or to neck-yokes employed upon any of the various forms of harness manufactured.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A neck-yoke attachment consisting of a ferrule having means for connecting to the body portion of a neck-yoke and with a bearing at the free end smaller in diameter than the ferrule, whereby a stop-shoulder is formed at the juncture of the bearing and ferrule, a collar rotative upon said bearing and engaging said shoulder and with annular stop-ribs at the ends, loops extending from the collar at opposite sides, a stud extending from the collar intermediate the loops, a stop-ring engaging the bearing in advance of the collar, and means for detachabl y connecting said ring to the bearing.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL C. MCCLANAHAN.
