Description

P. HAYDEN.
ROPE-TRACE. v No.177,122. Patented May 9,1876.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
PETER HAYDEN, NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROPE TRACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177, 122, dated May 9, 1876; application filed I April 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER HAYDEN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trace-Eye, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a detail section of the end of a trace to which my improvement has been applied.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for connecting the end of an ordinary rope trace with the hame and the whiffletree, and which shall be simple in construction, easily applied, strong, and durable.
The invention consists in the tapering ferrule, having a screw-hole through its base, and the tapering eye-screw, in combination with each other, to receive and hold the end ot'a rope trace, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a rope trace, which maybe covered with a leather or rubber casing, B.
' The end of the trace A B is then slipped into the ferrule G, the cavity of which is made large at the screw end, and of such a size that the end of the trace may be slipped into it easily. In the base of the ferrule O is formed a screw-hole to receive the screw D, upon the Y outer end of which is formed an eye. The screw D is made tapering, and is passed through the hole in the ferrule G, and is screwed into the end of the trace A between the strands. As the screw Dis screwed into the trace A it tends to draw it into the ferrule O, and wedges it securely into the tapering cavity of said ferrule, so that it cannot be drawn out without first taking out the screw D.
- Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the tapering ferrule 0, having a screw-hole through its base, and the tapering eye-screw D, with a rope trace, substantially as herein shown and described.
' ..PETER HAYDEN.
