Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEONARD CHRISTEN- SEN, a resident of Scottdale, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lorries; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and eX- act desori tion of the invention, such as will enable ot ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved lorry, and more particularly to an improved cokeoven lorry or car, the object of the invention being to proivde a lorry having a sheet-metal hopper-body with sheet-metal legs or supports connecting the body and truck.

A further object is to insure the strength, durability, and neat appearance of the lorry by constructing the legs of sheet-metal plates securely riveted together.

With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

The accompanying drawing is a perspective view illustrating my improvements.

1 represents the hopper-body composed of sheet-metal plates securely riveted together, and 2 represents supporting-legs for the body 1, secured upon a truck 3. These legs 2 are composed of sheet-metal plates securely riveted together and to truck 3 and made with outwardly-flared flanges4, at their upper ends'riveted to the inclined bottom plates of body 1.

The legs are formed of end plates 5, side plates 6, and inclined inner connecting plates 7. The end plates 5 are made with inverted- V-shaped central cut-out portions, so that the legs will join or merge before reaching the body. The side plates 6, each of which may be composed of two plates, if desired, are made with somewhat wider cut-out portions to accommodate the chutes 7; but the respective members of these side plates 6 are connected above the cut out portion, as clearly shown. The inner or inclined plates 7 are riveted to the edges of end plates 5 and 5 side plates 6 and complete the four hollow legs, which gradually diminish in size from their upper to their lower ends and flare outward from their upper to their lower ends, giving added strength to the support of the body.

Slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangements of the parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A lorry or car, comprising a body, a truck and a series of hollow sheet-metal legs disposed between the corners of the body and the truck.

2. A lorry or car, comprising a body, a truck and legs supporting the body on the truck, said legs consisting of sheet metal plates secured together and secured to the body and to the truck.

3. A lorry or car, comprising a body, a truck, and sheet-metal legs between the body and truck formed of metal plates secured together.

4. A lorry or car, comprising a body, a truck, and hollow sheet-metal legs between the body and truck, composed of sheet-metal plates riveted together.

5. A lorry or car, comprising a hop erbody, a wheeled truck, and sheet-metal p ate connecting said body and truck, said plates riveted together and cut out to form legs, and inclined plates secured to the edges of the cut-out portions and completing hollow legs triangular in horizontal cross-section and diminishing in size from their upper to their lower ends.
