To an whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRITZ KLEINSORGEN, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Elberfeld, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to brushes of all kinds; and it consists in so constructing them that the single rows of tufts of bristles can be separated from one another, so that the cleaning and drying of the brush can be more perfectly and quickly eflected.

Some forms of brush according to this invention are illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 shows a nail-brush in which separate rows of tufts of bristles are held together by a removable clip. Fig. 2 shows the same brush with the slide removed and the rows of bristles consequently spread out. Figs. 3 and 4 show the same arrangement as applied to a tooth-brush.

By means of this invention it is possible to clean the brush-body com letely and dry it very quickly-for instance, 3 removing a clip a from the brush-body b, which results in the separate rows of tufts of bristles spreading out as shown in Figs. 1 to 4, when the back is made by forming a number of slits in a single piece of wood, so that under ordinary conditions the separate strips stand out one from the other somewhat in a fan shape, whereby the air can readily have access to all parts of the brush. WVhen required for use, the clip a is pushed down, thus drawing and holding the series of tufts together.

I/Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

' 1. A brush comprising a handle a plurality of separable rows of tufts of bristles integral therewith and a sliding clip for connecting them together, substantially as set forth.

2. A brush comprising a handle, a plurality of bars normally spreading out at one end of said handle and integral therewith rows of bristles mounted in said bars, in combination with a sliding clip engaging with and connecting said bars together, substantially as set forth.
