ORNAMENTAI MATERIAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 7, 1905. Serial No. 272,978-
Patented. June 26, 1906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SOHUREK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements inOrnamental Material; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accom anying drawings and subse uently claime its object being to provi e simple, economical, and eflective ornamental material embodying flora in various fanciful designs for decorative and other purposes.
Figure lof the drawings re resents a lam shade, the major portion 0 which is ma e from ornamental material in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2 a sectional view of similar material.
Referring by letterto the drawings, A indicates a lamp-shade, the major portion of which comprises a body-sheet B or backing of any suitable, preferably translucent, substance havin sufiicient thickness and rigid ity to hold-t e shape into which it is fashioned. Mounted upon the sheet B and grouped in any fanciful design or designs are natural flowers and foliage D, either or both in the same design. The flora is held in position byfa thin retaining-sheet C, of transparent substance, glued or otherwise adhesively attached to the body-sheet and pressed in place to thus rigidly secure the aforesaid flora in raised air-tight pockets or cells.
In the manufacture of the ornamental ma terial the flora is first laid u on the bodysheet B to form a design or esigns such as fancy may dictate, after whichthe thin transparent sheet 0, coated with transparent glue or other suitable transparent adhesive material, is pressed in place, the result being apermanent setting of the flora desi or designs, each piece of which is held air-tight u on the aforesaid body-sheet. By reason oft e delicate thinness of the trans arent sheet C of the finished material the ora of said material is not onlyvisible, but it has an embossed effect upon the body-sheet of the aforesaid material, said flora being in a series of separate raised cells upon said body-sheet, as
shown in Fig. 2 and above specified.
While I have shown and described my invention as applied to a lam -shade, its use for decorative pur oses is in efinite, it being particularly usefu as an aid to instruction in botany. When the material as a whole is used for wall decoration or for binding in volumes, its body-sheet may be opaque instead of translucent; but in any event the flora is preserved in a series of trans arent raised cells u on said body-sheet to o tain the embosse eflect above specified.
Having now fully described my invention,
what I claim, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An ornamental material comprising a backing-or body-sheet, a design of natural flora arranged on the body-sheet, and a retaining-sheet of'thin transparent substance adhesively secured to said body-sheet over the floraand pressed in place to retain this flora in a series of separate raisedcells, whereby it has an embossed effect upon the aforesaid body-sheet.
2. An ornamental material comprising a body-sheet of translucent substance, a design of natural flora arranged thereon, and a retaining-sheet of thin transparent substance adhesively secured to said body-sheet over the flora and pressed in place to retainthis flora in separate raised cells, whereby it has an embossed effect upon the aforesaid bodysheet.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsm, 1n the presence of two witnesses.
