Description

No. 810,829. I PATENTED JAN. 23, 1906.
P. M. WARD.
DISPLAY STAND.
APPLIOAT'ION PILBD FEB. 13. 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1906.
Application filed February 13, 1905. Serial No. 245,423.
To aZZwh0m it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILo MILES WARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Johnson City, in the county of Washington and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to display-stands; and it consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention, and Fig. 2 a vertical sectional view thereof.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5 denotes two posts or standards rising from a suitable base-board 6. At the top the posts are connected by a cross-bar 7. A row of pins 8 extends outwardly from the bar on both sides thereof, the points of the pins being upwardly presented.
The invention is especially adapted for displaying hosiery, which is supported by being stuck on the pins, as clearly shown by dotted lines in the drawings. Several pairs of hose can be supported on each pin.
To guard against injury to the person by the pins, I provide leaves 9, which are hinged, as at 10, to the cross-bar, at the top edge thereof. The leaves extend downwardly over the pins and normally rest on their points. The hose is readily removed by taking hold thereof and giving a slight upward pull. This lifts up the leaf also, and after the article is removed from the pin the leaf drops back thereon.
A price-ticket 11 is secured at the top of the cross-bar, and on the outside of the leaves 9 are size-tickets 12, one of such being arranged above each pin. The size-tickets contain information to aid the dealer in determining what size to give the customer if the latter does not know this. On each ticket a certain age is given, together with the size of the shoe usually worn at that age. Therefore if the customer states the age, or size of the shoe worn, the dealer can readily pick out the proper size of hose.
The stand can be placed across the counter and takes up but little room, and it well serves the purpose for which it is intended.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
A display-stand comprising a base; standards rising therefrom; a cross-bar connecting said standards at the top ins extending outwardly from the side of t e cross-bar on both sides thereof, the points of the pins being upwardly presented; and a leaf hinged to each of the upper edges of the cross-bar and normally resting on the points of thepins.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PI-IILO MILES WARD.
