UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES R. HARRIS, OF WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPLAY-RAG K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,257, dated June 18, 1889.
Application filed June 19, 1888. Serial No. 277,516. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. HARRIS, of Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Racks; and Ido herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in display-racks, and particularly to a peculiar form of rack or frame that is designed to retain in place and show to advantage mens suspenders or other articles of merchandise, as well as advertising cards or signs, the object being to afford a simple and convenient article for the indicated purpose, which may be suspended above the counter or made to revolve on astandard affixed upon thiedcounter of a store where suspenders are so With this object in view my invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, that will be hereinafter described in the annexed specification and indicated in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the display rack or frame.
A is a frame, preferably made of wooden strips a, Which are of proper dimensions, so that when joined at their ends a square, triangle, or polygonal frame is afforded.
The screw-eyes b are inserted in the corners of the frame A at such points as will permit the chains, cords, or other flexible supports 0 for the frame to properly suspend it from an upper fixed point, it being understood that the lower ends of the chains 0 are attached to the screw eyes or staples b, the upper ends of the same being assembled together and affixed to a swivel-suspending ring d, so that the frame A will be supported in a horizontal plane by the chains 0 or other flexible suspensory devices.
Around the outer edges of the frame A a number of hooks cl are inserted therein at spaced intervals, which hooks are designed to support suspenders, shoulderbraces, or other articles that are preferably spread out to show the style of the goods to the best advantage.
Upon the upper face of the frame A display-cards I are affixed to stand upright. 5 5 These may be advertisements of the quality of the goods displayed on the rack, or other articles may be advertised on the cards thus supported for observation; or, if preferred, the cards I may be suspended from the edge of the frame A, and have the hooks d inserted in their lower edges, as shown in Fig.
3, so as to support goods of various kinds thereon and display them to advantage.
It may be preferred to support the display rack or frame A on a stand D, as shown in Fig. 8. In this case two cross-bars E E are affixed to the frame, which cross each other at right angles, and are centrally perforated, as at e, to receive a vertical stud f, which is made to project from the top end of the standard F. The upright standard F is also furnished with a pedestal or base-flange G, which is of proper diameter and weight to afford a stable base for the standard F and the frame A, that is thus sustained to revolve in a horizontal plane, the entire displaying device being preferably placed upon a counter when made in this form.
It is evident that quite a number of differcut styles of suspenders or shoulder-braces or other goods may be conspicuously displayed on the device herein described, and the frame may be revolved readily to show all'goods on it. v
Having fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As an improved article of manufacture, an angular frame having display cards or ad- 0 vertisements affixed to the upper face of each side, hooks secured to the side pieces below the cards or advertisements, and chains or flexible devices leading upwardly from the corners and attached to a suspending-ring, substantially as set forth.
2. A display-rack consisting of an angular frame, screw eyes or staples securing the side pieces of the frame together, display cards or advertisements secured to the side pieces of the frame, hooks also attached to said side pieces, and flexible devices attached to the screw eyes or staples for holding the frame suspended, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof Lhave signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES R. HARRIS.
