Description
No. 802,106. T PATENTED 00117, 1905. J. v. MATTESQN, N TOILET SEAT ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED APR.11,1905- lnwenw UNITED STATES PATEN T @TTTCE.
TOILET-SEAT ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1905.
Application filed April 11, 1905. Serial No. 255.057.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JESSE V. MATTESON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fruitvale. in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Seat Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an attachment for warming seats, especially those of toilets.
It consists in a combination and arrangement of parts and in details of construction, which will be more fully explained by reference to the accom pan yingdrawings,in which' Figure 1 shows my device placed on a bowl and partly in section. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device.
In the construction of my device I have shown it as applied to and superposed upon a bowl, as at A.
The seat portion 2 is preferably formed of hollow enameled iron in the form of an annulus and having a partition, as shown at 3, which intercepts communication between the two sides attherear. Upon each side of this partition and projecting rearwardly therefrom are the hinge-sections 4E and 5. The connection 5 may be an ordinary bar having the pivot or hinge hole made through it at the outer end. The part 4 is made hollow, and its outer end is in the form of a hinge-coupling, into which the pipe 6 enters, forming a substantially tight but movable joint. The pipe 6 is in line with the turnable ends of the parts L and 5, so that the part 2 may be raised, turned up, or let down about these hinges in the usual manner and without in any way interfering with the passage through the pipe 6 and into the hollow seat 2. By suitable connection with the pipe 6 any desired heating medium may be admittedsuch as hot water, steam, or hot air-and by means of a cock or valve, as at '7, the amount admitted may be regulated to suit requirements.
8 is a discharge-opening leading from the lower part of the hollow seat and from the point near the partition 3 and upon the opposite side from the inlet-passage 4:. This discharge-passage may open into the bowl or basin below and is made of smaller size than the inlet passage and pipe, the object being to insure a certain amount of back pressure which will prevent too rapid exhaustion of the heating medium, especially if the latter be a liquid.
The device is especially useful in cold climates and for invalids or delicate people.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An improvedtoilet-seat having in combination a seat portion formed with an internal chamber and having a partition at the rear which intercepts communication between two sides of said chamber, hinge-sections fixed to the rear of the seat one upon each side of the partition, one of said sections being made hollow and communicating with the chamber of the seat at one side of the partition, a pipe fitted to the hollow hinge-section and adapted to convey a heating medium thereto, and a pipe leading from the chamber of the seat on the side of the partition opposite to where the heat enters, said last-named pipe serving as a discharge for the heating medium and means controlling the heat-supply.
2. An improved toilet-seat having in combination, a hollow annulus having a diaphragm or partition across the rear portion, arms fixed to said annulus extending rearwardly and having hinge-pins about which they are turnable. one of said arms being hollow and forming a swivel-joint. a supply-pipe connected with said joint and having a controlling-cock, and a discharge-passage upon the opposite side of the partition whereby a heating medium at the rear of the seat at one side of the partition is caused to circulate to the front of the seat and thence to the rear again before being discharged, said passage having a smaller capacity than the inlet-passage.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY P. TRICOU, S. H. NOURSE.
