TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCER:
Be it known that I, JAMES S. STREETER, oi'v Providence, in the county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement inthe Method of Constructing lFly-Frame Flier; and do Ihereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, lwhich will enabxle others skilled' in the art to 'make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.
This invention relates to a. new and improved method of' constructing fliers for twisting of yarn, whereby the same are more economically made. a
Itlconsists i'n making the same of malleable or annealed cast iron, and casting the legs upona co're, whereby the tubevor tubes of a 'ly-frameier may he formed up without drilling or reamingpand the top or back ear rolled or wound over.
In the accompanying plate of drawings- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the casting of which the ier is made.
Figure 2` is a front view of a flier finished.
Figure 3 isaside view of same.
Similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the upper orA back ear;'.Gr is n. semieircular groove ihthe casting; a is a slot opening into said groove, as'it appears after closing together ofthe `two sides of groove G and the folding down of ear A, so that the said two sides do not' quite touch eachother. i y t The casting' represented in fig. 1 "is made of malleable or annealed cast iron, having the groove G in one leg of thesame, and havingnpo'n its upper part tlie top or back ear, A, as shown in thedrawing, g.b 1.
The groove `is then folded or closed up, so as to form a tube, asshown in the drawing, fig. 2 and g. 3, and the ear A is also rolled or folded inward, so as to tal-ke the form'shonn in fig. 2, so that the two edges of the same are brought nearly together, so-` as to form a. tube having a. slotthrough its entire length; and the ear A is bent or rolled down, so as to form a continuation of said tube and said slot, as shown in the drawings, figs. 2
' and S.
`'.lhe advantages of constructing iliers as above described are, that they are more cheaply made, and more effectually prevent the roving from lyingout when theflier is in'motio'n.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Constructing ily-frame iliers of malleable or annealed cast iron, with one on both legs cast with a groove upon a core or its equivalent, and with an ear, the anges of said legs and the ear being rolled down, to form thegrooved tube a, as herein shown and described. v
' JAMES S. STREETER.
