Description

No. 794,925. PATENTEDJULY 18, 1905.
- I. W. CAIRNS.
GARMENT HOLDER.
APPLIUATION FILED nun. s, 1905.
Patented July 18, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. CAIRNS, OF SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA.
GARMENT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,925, dated July 18, 1905. Application filed March 9, 1905. Serial No. 249,311.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN W. CAIRNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Mateo, in the county of San Mateoand State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a holder, and especially to a device for holding cuffs, collars, and other light articles of apparel and which also comprises a receptacle for collar buttons, studs, and other things.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, attractive, inexpensive, and practical device of this character.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts,as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my invention. Fig. 2 is a front end view of same.
A represents the body of my device, preferably hollow and of suitable shape, size, and material. Preferably it is tubular, as shown, and is provided at one end with the lateral perforated projections or lugs by which it can be secured in horizontal position to a wall, post, or other suitable support. The opposite or front end of the tube is partly closed, as shown at 2, to provide a suitable receptacle for collar-buttons, studs, and other things.
At suitable intervals around the periphery of the body A are the spring-clamps or holders 3, secured at their rear end and extending lengthwise of the body, beneath which springs collars, cuffs, and the like are adapted to be slipped and held.
Pendent beneath the body is a hook member 4, preferably made with two or more hooks and used for holding ties and other lightweight articles.
It is obvious that various modifications in my invention may be made without departing from the principle thereof, and I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the spe cific construction as herein shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As a new article of manufacture, a tubular holder closed at one end and having the other end open to afiord access to the interior, said closed end having lateral projections by which the device is secured in a horizontal position, and spring-clamps on the exterior of the holder extending lengthwise of the holder and between which and the outer circumference of the holder, articles of personal wear may be clamped.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a tubular holder having means at one end for attachment to a support, said holder having one end partially closed whereby the interior of the holder is normally accessible and serves as a receptacle for collar-buttons and the like, said holder having garment-supporting means on its periphery.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN W. CAIRNS.
