its. application. t t In describing my irnproved burner, I refer to theaecompanying drowings, forming part of this specification,
CHARLES BURNHAM, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Lcttere Patent No. 78,053,"dated May :19, 18.68.
mrsovnuemm GAS-HEATERS.
E1 sen-n: nfemh to in tiate 3mm Entertain mating met on; time.
I Be it known that I, CHARLES BURNHAM, of Philadelphia. city and county, -$tate of Pennsylvania, have invented a neivand improved Adjustable Gas and Vapor-Burner; and I do herehy de'elare the following deserip tion and accompanying drawings are suflieient to enable any person skilled intheurtor science to whieh it most nearlyappertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further inventioner experiment.
The nature of my invention and improvementseonsists in providing a gas oryapor-burnereomposed mainly of tjifO cylinders, the outer cylinder hav'ing'tn perforated disk within it, near the top, said cylinders sliding one within the other, like those of a telescope, in order to'rai'se or lower the perforated disk or the plane'of eombastion, and lengthen or shorten the mixing-chamber, so asto obtain the best r'esult in each particultin'case of of\vh ieh-- I v Figure 1 is an elevation, and
Figure 2 a. top view of the smile.- j i i i A is the exterior cylinder, partially raised, and capable of being'easily moved up or down upon the interior cylinder, B,the latter-extending into the former in its present position, as indicated by dotted lines. The bese',
C, is provided irith openings D D, to :idmit airinto the mixing-cbolnber enelosed by the t wo eyliuders, and the,
conical tube E, the centre, is adopted to fit on an ordinary gas-burner or over any opening from which 'g usis to be supplied. Ajbead or swell, I", is formed within the outer cylinder, from about one-feur th to eboutfoneh'nlf'an inch below the upper edge, for the perforated disk, shown in fig. 2, to rest against, the position of the disk within .the cylinder being shown by the dotted line at.G', in figJl. Gas or an inflammable vapor being; admitted through the tnbeE, it is mixed with air in the cylinders, and rising through the perforated disk, may
be lighted at: the top. ,The article to be heated being pie ced over it on asuitoble support-,the height of the disk and top of the outer cylinder containing it may be readily adjusted by-moving the outer cylinder up or down upon the inner one. l V 1 I i i The foregoing-being adescription of my invention, I claim, and desiretoseeureby Letters Patent- The two cylinders arranged t6 slide telescopically, one withinrthe other, 'to adjust the height of the plane of combustion or the length and cap'acityfof themixingmhamber, substantially as described,
