Description

NITED STATES Patented March 21, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
PLOW-STOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,244, dated March 21, 1905.
Application filed April 25, 1904. Serial No. 204,848.
'To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. WHITE- HURs'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellisville, in the county of Jones and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Stocks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved plow-stock for use on an ordinary cultivator-plow in connection with a shovel, half'shovel, sweep, scooter, bull-tongue, scraper, or other earth-working implement used either in the preparation of the soil or planting or cultivating of a crop.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying' drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a plow-stock embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, showing` the foot set at right angles in full lines and set also to the right and left in dotted lines; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same.
The beam l is of the usual or any suitable construction and is provided at its rear end with handles 2. The standard or foot 3 is of the form shown, has the usual vertical slot 4 extending therethrough from its front to its rear side, and has its upper end broadened and extended laterally to each side, as at 6. The openings 9 10 are in line with each other, and the opening 8 is out of line therewith. The upper end of the foot or standard is formed by a head or bar 7,which is preferably formed integrally with the sides, and lateral and vertical extensions 6 of the standard. This head is here shown as provided with a central opening 8, intermediate openings 9, and outer openings l()y of a size to receive the lower ends of the U-shaped bolt 1l,which is employed to secure the standardor foot to the beam. The said U-shaped bolt is placed asti-ide of the beam, and when its Vends are engaged with the intermediate openings 9 the standard or foot isset with its head at right angles to the beam and centrally disposed with relation thereto. The usual caps l2 are provided, which are secured to the ends of the bolt to secure the foot or standard to the beam. To the under side of the beam at its rear end is pivoted the upper end of a brace 13, as at 14. The lower front end of the brace extends into the vertical slot of the standard or foot and is pivotally connected to the latter by a pin or bolt l5. The shovel or other earth-working implement is attached tothe front side of the standard or foot by the usual or any suitable means.
The widened head or upper end of the foot or standard and the pivotal connection between the brace and the beam enable the foot or standard to be set either with its head at right. angles to the beam, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, or at the inclination with reference thereto as shown in dotted lines in the said figure in order to secure a right or left hand set. It will be understood that when the standard is secured in an oblique position the bolt will be'in engagement with the central opening 8 and one of the outer openings 10 in the head of the standard.
My improved plow-stock is exceedingly `cheap and simple, is very strong and durable,
and is adapted foruse as a general plow-stock for the preparation of the soil and in the planting and cultivation of a crop of any kind.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A cultivator-plow standard comprising sides spaced apart to form a vertical'slot between them and having their upper ends extended laterally and vertically and a bar connecting the said lateral and vertical extensions of the sides and forming a head, said head having outer openings 10, a central opening 8 and intermediate openings 9, for the purposes set forth, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a plow-beam.y acultivator-standard comprising sides spaced apart to form a vertical slot between them and having their upper ends extended laterally and vertically and a bar connecting the said lateral and vertical extensions of the sides and forming a head having outer openings, a oentral opening and intermediate openings, said head bearing against the under side of the beam, a brace having its lower end pivotally secured between the sides of the standard and its upper end pivotally connected t0 the beam at a point in rear of the standard, and a clipbolt arranged astride of the beam and engaging appropriate adjusting-openings in the head of the standard to set the latter either at right angles or obliquely with reference to the beam, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
