To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HOWARD O. MILLER, of Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Forms, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to forms for improving the display of boots or shoes, and relates particularly to that type of such devices which comprises a plurality of members permanently connected together and adjustable to fit different sizes of boots or shoes.

The object of the invention is to produce a simple and cheap device of the character stated and one which may be quickly and conveniently operated either upon inserting or removing it from a boot or shoe.

To this end the invention consists in a dis play-form comprising a toe member and an adjustable heel member, the latter consisting of two sections joined and connected to be operated as a toggle, the outer end of one section being adapted to engage the inner portion of the heel of a shoe and the other member of the toggle having a handle or operat ing projection.

In. the drawings, Figure 1 represents the improved device in the position which the parts thereof occupy relatively to each other when said device is being inserted in a shoe, the shoe in said figure being shown in longitudinal section. Fig. 2 represents a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing the parts of the display-form in the positions which they relatively occupy after insertion in the shoe. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the displayform, the parts being in the position shown Fig. 4 represents a section through the device at the point of the adjustable connection or clamp thereof.

The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the figures.

connecting the heel-block with the pivot a and a pivotal connection between these two, which will presently be described. The bar 6 is formed with a longitudinal slot 6 and a handle portion, preferably comprising a bent finger-piece I). This bar 6' fits in the slot or recess If, the formation of which in the heelblock I) results in the bifurcation of the latter.

The clamping and pivot device comprises a screw 0, having one end threaded and provided with a wing-nut c, and two washers or blocks 0 having holes for the passage of the screw 0, one of the blocks 0 being interposed between the head of the screw 0 and one side of the bar 6', the other block or washer being in terposed between the other side of the bar 7) and the base of the wing-nut 0. These blocks 0 are of such length than when the wing-nut c is operated to clamp the parts Z) and Z) in their position of adjustment to suit the particular size of a shoe the pressure between the wing-nut and the head of the screw will be entirely taken up by said blocks and the bar 6 without exerting any clamping pressure upon the legs of the bifurcated heel-block b. Therefore the bifurcated heel member is free to swing at all times upon the blocks 0, so that the two members of the toggle may freely move between the positions indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.

Although I have shown the screw 0 and the washers c as being carried by the heel-block, it will be understood that it is within the scope of my invention to mount said screw and washers in the bar b and form a slot in the heelblock to receive said pivot.

In use the device may be inserted in a shoe, as shown in Fig. l, and thereafter a downward pressure upon the handle 5 will expand the toe and heel blocks within the shoe, as inclicated in Fig. 2. A simple pull or lift upon the handle 5 will first break the toggle and thereafter enable the device to be quickly removed from the shoe.

I claim- 1. A display-form for boots or shoes comprising a toe member and an adjustable toggle heel member consisting of a bifurcated heel-block, a slotted bar or link pivoted at one end to the toe member and having an integral laterally-extending lip at the other end and extending through the bifurcation of the heelblock, and a connection between the inner end of the heel-block and the intermediate portion of the bar or link, said connection including a pivot member that passes through the slot of the bar or link and is adapted to be secured at any desired point in the length of said slot.

2. A display-form comprising a toe member, a heel member, a bar pivoted to the toe member and connected to the heel member by means of a pin carried by one of said parts arranged in a slot formed in the other, a washer on said pin on each side of the slotted part, and means for forcing said washers together to pinch the slotted part without strain on the part carrying the pin.

3. A device of the class described, comprising a heel member and a toe member, a connecting-bar pivotally joined to one of said members, and means for adjustably connecting said bar to the other member, said means comprising a pivot-pin mounted in said other member, and means for fixedly securing said pivot-pin at any desired point on the connecting-bar.
