Description

No. 767,265. PATENTED AUG. 9, 1904. L. DEMUTH.
TOBACCO PIPE.
, APPLICATION FILED APR. 5, 1904.
NO MODEL.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED STATES Patented August 9, 1904.
LEOPOLD DEMUTH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOBACCO-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,265, dated. August 9, 1904. Application filed April 5,1904. Serial No. 201,726. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD DEMUTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes or Smokers Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to novel features of construction, set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a pipe and stem separated. Fig. 2 shows the pipe and stem together.
In this tobacco-pipe the screw-threaded nipple is fastened to the pellucid mouthpiece and is concealed in the stem of the pipe when secured into the same.
In the drawings, the letter a designates the stem of the tobacco-pipe, which is provided with a bowl I) to receive or hold the tobacco. A portion of the interior of the stem is screwthreaded, as shown at 0, and the end thereof has a tubular socket (Z. The mouthpiece c is preferably made of some pellucid material, like celluloid or amber, and has an annular extension f, to which is secured, by cement or similar means, a screw-nipple When the mouthpiece is secured onto the stem. the nipple does not appear or show through the pellucid mouthpiece, the rear portion thereof being hidden in the socket, while the front or screw-threaded portion of the same engages with the screw-thread and is covered or concealed in bore of the stem. This construction of screw-thread in the interior of stem is stronger, as said thread does not come to the end of the stem, and is thus protected against chipping.
The construction of the mouthpiece with the extended screw-threaded nipple gives a neat appearace to the mouthpiece when attached to the stem, as no portion of the nipple will show or appear through the exposed part of the pellucid mouthpiece.
In speaking of a pipe of course the term is not used in a limiting sense, as smokers articles are includedsuch, for example, as cigar or cigarette holders.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A mouthpiece for pipes or smokers articles provided with an extension forming an integral part thereof, and a screw-threaded nipple secured a portion of its length in the extension, said nipple adapted to secure said mouthpiece to a pipe-stem.
2. A transparent mouthpiece for pipes or smokers articles provided with an extension of diminished cross-section or thickness at its inner or butt end, and a screw-nipple embedded in the extension so as not to project into the body of or be visible through the mouthpiece.
3. A mouthpiece having an extension and a screw-nipple in the extension combined with a stem of a pipe or smokers article said stem having a socket to receive the extension and a thread for the nipple, said thread being located clear of the end of the stem.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
