COMBINED WHISTLE AND GIGAE HOLDER. No. 542,366. Patented July 9, 1895.
i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEON LEMOS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINED WHISTLE AND C|GARHO|...DER.A
.srEcrFroA'rIoN forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,366', cated only 9,1 ses.
Application filed August 7, 1894. Serial No. 519.677. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEON LEMos, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented anew and useful Combined Whistle and Cigar-Holder, of which the following is a specification. y Y
My invention has for its object the production of a combined cigar-holder and whistle, or a device wherein a cigar or a cigarette may be smoked and with which a policeman can be summoned or an alarm sounded instantaneously.
To attain this end, my invention consists essentially in a cigar-holder having at one end a socket for the tip ot' a cigar, at the other end a mouthpiece communicating with the socket and a whistle, the same being constructed to operate substantially as hereinafter explained, and set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through the center of the device. Fig. 2 is a top view.
Like letters of reference, wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in both Iigures.
The body A is a hollow cylinder with a socket B, suitably shaped, in one end to rereceive the tipv end of a cigar, and also separated from the rear portion of the hollow space by a plug C. In the opposite end, or what I term the rear end, is fixed a tapering mouthpiece E, having a tubular passage d through it. From the inner end of this mouthpiece a small tube D is carried through the hollow space beyond through the plug C and into the socket B. This socket, mouthpiece, and connecting-tube form the cigar-holder, while the space between the mouthpiece and the socket constitutes the chamber of the whistle. i
Between thebutt or larger end of the mouthpiece and the surrounding end of the cylindrical body, into which it is inserted, an oritice or `passage is made by attening the butt end of the mouthpiece, and in front of this passage an opening G of the usual shape is cut toproduce the thin lip G for the whistle.
In practice the mouthpiece is held in the lips or mouth of the smoker; but when `dan` ger is apparent or assault is made the lips are extended over the whistle-critico and a blast given through the passage to work the Whistle in the usual way. `Thus it will be seen that the necessary call can be made immediately without removing the implement from the lips or mouth.
Room for inserting a pea in the whistlechamber can be made, if desired, by bending down the smoke-tube D directly under the opening F.
A removable plug H, with a socket and passage of suitable size for a cigarette, is inserted in the socket B to receive a cigarette.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat- In testimony that I'claim the foregoingA I` have hereunto set my hand and seal.
LEON LEMos. [n s] Witnesses:
