SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 765,865, dated July 26, 1904.

Beit known that I, CHARLES W. THOMPSON, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalama- Zoo and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose- Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in combined hose-supporters and Suspenders.

The objects of the invention are, first, to provide an improved combination hose-supporter and suspender which is simple and economical to construct and convenient to use; second, to provide an improved combination hose-supporter and suspender which effectively supports the garments and one by which dressing and undressing are greatlyfacilitated; third, to provide an improved hose-supporter which in use is always retained in proper position on the person of the wearer and one by which the weight of the garments is properly distributed, so that it is borne by the partsof the body least likely to be injuriously affected thereby.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forminga part of this specification, in which the view is a front elevation of my improved combination hose-supporter and suspender.

Referring toy the drawing, the shoulderstraps A A are secured together at the back in a manner very like a pair of trousers-suspenders and are provided with suitable suspender-ends, as A Av at the front end and AH at the back. Straps C C are secured to the shoulder-straps A A at points in front of the shoulder of the wearer. Hose-gripping devices C' are detachably secured to the ends of Serial No. 128,381. (No model.)

Straps B B are secured at one end to the ends of the shoulder-straps A at the back and are brought forwardly and downwardly across the back and secured to the hose supporting straps C in a manner so that they rest across the back and over the hips of the wearer, and any pull or weight upon the hosesupporter straps is borne jointly by the shoulders, back, and hips of the wearer. The straps B also serve to hold the parts in their proper position. Suitable adjusting-buckles c are provided for the straps A and C.

The structure illustrated is designed particularly for boys and avoids the necessity of securing the trousers to the waist or providing a waist for that purpose. At the same time the trousersare comfortably supported and the weight of the garments is properly distributed on the person of the wearer.

By using the cast-off buckles c for securing the hose-grips'to the hose-supporting straps l C much time is saved in dressing and undressing, and a child using the same can adjust and secure the parts together.

It is evident that by substituting the proper garment-attaching devices the structure may be readily adapted for womens use.

As before remarked, by this arrangement of parts the structure is always retained in proper position on the person of the wearer and the weight is distributed to the parts of the body least liable to be injured or inconvenienced thereby. The convenience of the article in the matter ofadjustment and useis apparent.

I have illustrated and described my improved combined hose supporter and suspender in the form preferred by me on account of its simplicity in use and economy in manufacture. I am aware, however, that it is capable of considerable structural variation without departing from my invention.

Having thus described myv invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In an article .of the class described, the combination of the shoulder-straps secured together at the back; suspender-ends therefor; downwardly-depending hose-supporter straps IOO secured to the front ends of said shoulderstraps; straps secured to said shoulder-straps at the back and passed downwardly and forwardly around the person of the wearer and secured to the front ends of said hoseesupporting' straps when such straps are arranged in a substantially perpendicular position; hosesupportin,g` devices; and cast-oft' clasps or buckles for detachably securing said hosesupporting devices to said hose-supporting straps, substantially as described.

2. In an article of the class described, the combination of the shoulder-straps secured together at the back; downwardly-depending hose-supporter straps secured to the front ends or' said shoulder-straps; straps secured to said shoulder-straps at the back and passed downwardly and forwardly around the person of the wearer and secured to the front ends of said hose-supporting` straps when such straps are arranged in a substantially perpendicular position; hose-supporting devices; and cast-olif clasps or buckles for detachably securing said hose-supporting devices to said hose-supporting straps, substantially as described.

3. In an article of the class described, the combination of the shoulder-straps secured together at the back; suspender-ends therefor;

downwardly-depending hose-supporter straps secured to the front ends of said shoulderstraps; straps secured to said shoulder-straps at the back and passed downwardly and forwardly around the person of the wearer and secured to the front ends of said hose-supporting1 straps when such straps are arranged in a substantiallyperpendicularposition; and hose-supporting devices, substantially as described.

4. In an article of the class described, the combination of the shoulder-straps secured together at the back; downwardly-depending hose-supporter straps secured to the front ends of said shoulder-straps; straps secured to said shoulder-straps at the back and passed downwardly and forwardly around the person of the wearer and secured to the front ends of said hose-supporting' straps when said straps are arranged in a substantially perpendicular position; and hose-supporting devices; substantially as described.
